Manfred Mann Chapter Three : Manfred Mann Chapter Three 1Y3 / 2Y3 1st Press Vertigo 1969
This first pressing on the Vertigo label plays to a standard you so rarely find today. In essence it plays 'as new' and that is no exaggeration. Having played every track in full I can confirm there is not even a single dust tick let alone anything more. This record that has been so well preserved and having cleaned it on my Project-VCS the sonic quality is just out of this world! The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is sensational it just could not play any better. You will not be surprised to hear the vinyl is visually stunning and it is safe to say that it has only been lightly played over the last 54 years. A FINAL UPGRADE album in every way.
I have graded the gatefold as VG++ but it is a very strong example and in much better condition than you usually see. The original swirl inner is in excellent condition with only very minimal wear.

Visual description
The vinyl is in superb condition and still has an lovely glossy sheen with no scratches. Under a bright light I can only see a handful of ultra faint hairlines and a two small faint 'haze' areas on S2 that have no affect on the audio. The iconic Vertigo labels have no marking / writing and only very minimal spindle wear.
Play grading
S1 has no background on the lead in so you are already have expectations of the audio and it does not disappoint! The entire intro on 'Travelling Lady' plays with sublime clarity and the opening vocal has no intrusion either. It continues to play so well with not even a solitary dust tick for company. It could not play with any greater precision and 'as new' is no exaggeration. This is without doubt a Mint start to the album.
'Snakeskin Garter' plays in the same exact way with a clarity and depth that cannot be faulted. Huggs's voice is so distinctive of course and it is so clean here with zero intrusion. The many instrumental sections play with so clearly, crystal clear audio you say. Another Mint track.
'Konekuf' again shows how well this vinyl has been preserved and plays with exceptional audio from start to finish with no ticks, clicks, pops or static. A 'busy' instrumental and yet every note can easily be heard. Pure Mint audio in every way.
'Sometimes' and 'Devil Woman' end the side with STUNNING clarity and warmth. The audio is again unbelievably clean and 'as new' is an honest appraisal of the audio. I don't just listen to 'sections' I listen to every track in full so as to provide the 'complete' grade and these two final tracks just could not play any better. Mint
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The intro on 'Time' is basically with perfect with just one light static tick, and Hugg's first vocal keeps up the standard. From that point on it plays 'as new' with a clarity and definition that is plucked straight from 1969! Each note is so clean and precise and even the brief quiet 'pause' plays beautifully with no intrusion. Another example of the incredible clarity is on the long fade out, there is not one dust tick. This is Mint from start to finish. 'One Way Glass' plays with phenomenal quality with only one mega light static on the fade out so I still think it deserves to be graded as Mint :-) The audio definition on this track is stunning.
'Mister You're A Better Man Than I' plays with STUNNING clarity with no interference and that includes the very quiet section near the end. I am running out of superlatives for this album, I'm trying to describe each track in an individual way but it's difficult! Mint
Let's keep this brief - both 'Ain't It Sad' and 'A Study In Inaccuracy' play with perfect clarity and depth. The latter one of course has a very quiet 'choral' section near the end and yet... no background whatsoever. Mint is again a fair assessment of both tracks.
'Where Am I Going' ends this super clean album with... super clean audio! The piano intro plays perfectly and Hugg's opening vocal is equal to that. It continues in the same precise way with nothing getting in the way of the audio. The delicate piano piece half way through plays beautifully and this clarity is kept up to the very end. A Mint conclusion to a stunning album on so many levels.
In summary this first Vertigo pressing plays to the highest standard possible i.e. 'as new'. I know that is a bold statement to make but having played every second of each track I am confident in saying that and as I often say I do not over-grade my LPs. It would not be in my interests or yours! Every aspect of the audio - the clarity, depth, power, resonance and warmth - could not be any more impressive and clearly it qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE archive pressing. A real find.
The Gatefold & Vertigo Swirl Inner
This cover is so often found badly worn around the edges which I guess is mainly due to it being laminated but this one is in pretty good shape overall. Yes the edges and corners have some rubbing but the wide spine remains very strong with its original shape even though it has some rubbing on each edge. The opening edge has no real handling wear but does have some writing on the inside. The front cover is so much cleaner than usual with only a little fading / spotting around the edges and the back cover is very similar but does have LP 178 written in the top corner. The inside of the gatefold is in great order with barely any fading around the edges. A very strong example.
The original poly-lined swirl inner is in superb shape with no side splits or tears, only minor fading and minimal creasing. It has 349 written in one corner for some reason.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Many thanks.
All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
