MAGAZINE - THE CORRECT USE OF SOAP - NEW / SEALED
Because You're Frightened 3:54 Model Worker 2:51 I'm A Party 3:01 You Never Knew Me 5:23 Philadelphia 3:54 I Want To Burn Again 5:16 Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) 3:38 Sweetheart Contract 3:18 Stuck 4:04 A Song From Under The Floorboards 4:07
I wasn't sure about this album when I first heard it, but every single time I've gone back to it its gotten better.
True, the sound is a bit more commercial than previous albums but its hardly as if Magazine were ever on the abrasive side of post-punk. If anything they're just more honest about it here.
In fact this sorta reminds me of late 70's/early 80's Bowie what with the art-rock synths and funk influence. Devoto's vocals also approach the Bowieish at times. Devoto's lyrics however are far better, often focusing on conflicted hate-ridden relationships.
You Never Knew Me and I Want to Burn Again for example, are fantastic breakup songs.
The closer, Song From Under the Floorboards gets props for being based on Dostoevsky's underground man.
Possibly Magazine's best record.
