What I’m Selling:
Brand new perfectly sealed and in MINT condition, this already out-of-print, double-LP called The Everglow by Virginia-based/Nashville-at-present band, Mae. This edition of the record was put out by Spartan Records in 3 variant vinyl colors on December 2, 2016. All 2,500 hundred records and colors sold out before the records were even pressed! I have a personal double-black copy signed by the band from a long time ago (2005 to be exact) THAT IS NOT FOR SALE. The pictures you see here are of my NEW copy with the color variant referred to as "Suspension" (Yellow/Pink/Green Starburst), 1000 copies pressed. Your copy is not opened, but will be the same color variant unless Spartan Records goofed on my order. Regardless, the other two variant colors can be found on Spartan’s website and they are equally as cool. Also, “starburst” or “marbled” vinyl colors… not a single one is exactly the same. That’s more than likely impossible if you know how colored vinyl is pressed.
Mae's The Everglow 2016 features two LPs, three stunning variants, and a 28 page 12x12 inch foil-stamped storybook with pictures, the lyrics to every song and includes an epilogue by the band, this pressing is destined to be as classic as the album itself.
A Bit About this Musician and/or Band:
Boasting a sound that straddled the border of alternative rock and emo-pop, Mae (an acronym for Multisensory Aesthetic Experience) was formed in early 2001 by guitarist Matt Beck, drummer Jacob Marshall, bassist Mark Padgett, keyboardist Rob Sweitzer, and vocalist Dave Elkins. The band initially started out as a project between Elkins and Marshall, students at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Recording sessions were booked at Padgett's home studio, and the duo quickly grew into a quintet as the co-founders rubbed shoulders with other local musicians. Nearly eight months later, Mae had cemented its sound and landed local shows with the likes of the Movielife, River City High, and the Exit. In the process, the group also recorded songs for a debut album, Destination: Beautiful, which was released in early 2003 by Tooth & Nail.
While touring to support Destination: Beautiful, guitarist Matt Beck stepped down from his post and was replaced by former Unsung Zeroes guitarist Zach Gehring. Destination: B-Sides surfaced near the end of 2004. Mae's second proper studio album, The Everglow, followed in 2005, and the band's dedicated audience (not to mention its coveted spot on the Warped Tour that summer) helped the album peak at number 51 on the Billboard 2000. Mae joined the Virgin College Mega Tour in early 2006, appearing alongside Over It and Yellowcard in the process, and a bonus edition of TheEverglow appeared that April with additional tracks and a bonus DVD. The musicians' contract with Tooth & Nail ran out later that year, and they went on to sign a deal with Capitol, thus making Mae a major-label act. But the band’s debut album was first re-released by Capitol’s Christian Music label, and some folks didn’t give Mae much thought other than that they must be very religious. Uh, if you know the band and their releases, you’d have to search high and low to find a lyric that is truly or uniquely religious.
Singularity was released during the summer 2007 and cracked the Top 40, selling roughly 17,000 copies during its first week. It proved to be Mae's only release for Capitol (vs. Capitol Christian Music), however, as the band left the label's roster in 2008 and forged ahead as an independent act. Early the following year, the (m)orning EP became Mae's first independently released disc, although it received a widespread release in September courtesy of Cell Records. They followed up quickly in 2010 with another EP, (a)fternoon. (e)vening followed soon after. A triple vinyl package of (m)orning, (a)fternoon and (e)vening was made available in November, 2016 and sold out, literally, overnight. A special edition on three colored vinyl LP’s will be out in March, 2017; there were only 750 copies, which sold out within 12 hours.
The band “broke up” and Dave Elkins moved to Nashville and created Schematic Studios and also released his first “solo” EP under the moniker Schematic. His full-length double LP of Color (n.) Inside The Lines The result an E Keyboardist Rob Sweitzer is currently running a crowdfunding campaign to release his own solo record, . And the band has recorded new material at Schematic Studios and will tour VERY briefly in the U.S. in January, 2017.
They have great energy live, and their rock songs rock in all the right places and the ballads will break your heart. I’ve been privileged to see the band live five times… one of which was the last night of a tour the band did called the Goodnight & Goodbye Tour… the first time they claimed they wouldn’t be touring ever again… and their closing set from that tour ended in the city I now live in, and was held in my favorite venue in Portland… Mississippi Studios.
The only record that has yet to be released happens to be my favorite, Singularity. The fact that Capitol Records rather than Capitol Christian released Singularity on CD, the band and Spartan Records are hoping to issue it on vinyl someday soon.
