RARE & clean original UK popsike, freakbeat & mod pop grooves ..."If Music Be the Food of Love" was Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mich and Tich's second album, and it's by far the most succesfull of their 4 orginal albums. Originally released in 1966 the album included their recent hits "Hideaway" and "Bend it" as well as their break-through "You Make it Move".

Hook-laden tunes transformed Salisbury, Wiltshire, England-based quartet Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich into one the United Kingdom's top pop bands of the mid-'60s. Performing songs by their managers Ken Howard and Alan Blaikley, the group scored with such Top Ten U.K. hits as "Hold Tight," "Hideaway," "Bend It," "Save Me," "Okay," "Zabadak," "Last Night in Soho," and the chart-topper, "Legend of Xanadu." Formed as Dave Dee & the Bostons, Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich were led by vocalist Dee (born: David Harman), an ex-policeman who had been at the scene of the automobile accident that took the life of American rocker Eddie Cochran and injured Gene Vincent in April 1960. Dee had taken Cochran's guitar from the accident and held it until it could be returned to his family. Although they were among the many British bands who honed their skills while performing in Hamburg, Germany, Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich were one of the first to tour the United Kingdom with established acts

This was the classic 2nd album, in RARE original form, "If Music Be the Food of Love...Then Prepare for Indigestion" (1966) contains the 12 tracks. Although Dave "Dee" Harman (guitar/vocals), Trevor "Dozy" Davies (bass), John "Beaky" Diamond (rhythm guitar), Michael "Mick" Wilson (drums), and Ian "Tich" Amey (lead guitar) failed to make much of an impression in the United States, their success throughout Europe is arguably more indicative of the combo's strong tunes and equally formidable execution. The group's style ranges from the rhythmically aggressive Brit-pop opener, "Bang," to the gentle and lyrical "All I Want" and the edgier proto-freakbeat of "Hideaway" and "Hands Off!" There are likewise slight excursions such as the distinctly Baroque-flavored and ultimately tongue-in-cheek "Loos of England" and the oddly Mediterranean groover "Bend It." Incidentally, "Bend It" was a very catchy slice of popsike, and a big hit, though was banned in the States, for the suggestive lyrics. "Hair on My Chinny-Chin-Chin" is of note as a cool cover of Robert "Bumps" Blackwell's composition that is perhaps best known for Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs' hit reading.
