Something of a nowadays hard to find gem LP...DELUXE VINYL (180 gram heavy weight) limited edition featuring the legendary UK POPSIKE/MOD R&B POWERPOP CREATION, a cool band that included young Pete Townsend in their fan club...he had just formed The Who and looked to The Creation as a major influence of his band.
If you like mid '60s garage, freakbeat, Mod, R&B laced British Invasion stuff, get this. Its something of a must have for aficionados of '60s mod rock. The Creation nailed a top 40 hit in the UK in 1966 in “Painter Man,” which featured the crazy guitar playing of Eddie Phillips, who used a violin bow on the strings—a trick so cool Jimmy Page co-opted and rode until be became a trillionaire legend with his garage-blues band Led Zeppelin.
In the '60s, The Creation just couldn't catch a break. The Who's Pete Townshend was such a fan that he tried to break the band up, asking co-leader Eddie Phillips to join the Who as second guitarist. The general public was considerably less enthralled. The band's onstage antics were too weird with their exploding 'paint bombs'--while the classically-trained Phillips attacked his guitar with a violin bow, singer Kenny Pickett would create instant spray paintings on canvas and then set them on fire. Their songs were too aggressive--the Creation played loud, snotty pop songs with titles like "Biff Bang Pow" and "Painter Man," a story of a guy who abandons the pursuit of fine art for the world of commercial design. The group's demeanor was too obscure--Phillips once told an interviewer, "Our music is red with purple flashes." This classic album makes clear how much people who doubted the Creation truly missed a great band -- the solid 'nuggets' filled album proves they were sadly overlooked mod-psych gem!
