M- 1968 first pressing VINYL on 360 Sound Columbia ~
Mike Bloomfield & Al Kooper
(+ Carlos Santana)
Live Adventures At the Fillmore 1968
USA - 360 Sound Columbia - KGP 6
Original 1968 first pressing in thick gatefold cover...the sprawling 2-LP set on the highly collected 360 Sound Columbia label is in TOP minty condition, includomng the original columbia '68 inner sleeves. the album represents the first vocal performance caught on vinyl of Mike Bloomfield. Both he and Al Kooper had been band mates as backing band of Bob Dylan in his electric phase ("Highway 61" Lp, etc) ...here they jam at the famous Fillmore West in 1968
From the first time you LISTEN you may get the idea that you are in front a towering album. One of those successful accidents far from being planned, and conceived simply as a happy musical encounter supported by two outstanding musicians of the height of Al Kooper and Mike Bloomfield. With Carlos Santana on 2nd guitar BEFORE Santana recorded an album...
Those inspired performers were giving the best of themselves playing to what constituted one of the best blues album performed from in the late sixties and one of the most remarkable in any age. In the 60's, San Francisco was a true energy explosion in constant innovation and creative frenzy, one jump ahead any other city in which Rhythm and Blues concerns.
This version of The weight is one of the standards that has nothing to envy to The Band 's original performance. It so great the transcendence of this golden piece that by itself constituted in a holy hymn of an untamed generation and a real evidence about the creativity and musical talent that surrounded us. Notice this song (in other version) was part of the Soundtrack of Easy Rider (a mere casualty perhaps?).
Mary Ann is a groovy theme. But if you asked some about the best track you may hear said: Dear Mr. Fantasy. Still, there is no minor tracks. Each them possesses its own charm; those songs were the final result of the sum of the genius, no more nor less
This is an immortal album, that will endure as a true sonorous gem, a real example of what the musical happenings meant in the "hippie era" , with the fabulous organ solos of Kooper, and biting howling guitar prowess of Mike Bloomfield & Carlos Santana, in search of having a good time and get some fun through the music that shook the world.
Those enraptured sessions at Bill Graham's Filmore Auditorium, San Francisco, September 26, 27, 28 1968 a fundamental chapter of the musical history was being played. Released on the success of the Bloomfield/Kooper/Stills live-in-the-studio SUPER SESSION which had been a surprise hit earlier that year, this nonetheless features a stretched-out version from that album, the lengthy psychedelic jam "His Holy Modal Majesty." As well includes an inventive slow soul version of "59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy),"
This is highly creative music-making regardless of its era.
