         LUCIFERS FRIEND

\                                                    USA - Billingsgate Records - 1002

Lucifer's Friend is a very powerful rock band with a career that spanned a mind exploding decade of nefarious activity...

tHee scarce thick GATEFOLD 1970 FIRST PRESSING USA original just like the expensive German first release ...The first album by this burning heavy Krautrock crew ...heavy, intense, filled with killer originals kicked up with loads of gushing organ, ripping heavy guitar and a classic English vocalist, who was so great he got picked up by a major rock band... the first Lucifers Friend is legendary -- they could never hope to equal this beast.... Manic screaming from power vocalist John Lawton appropriately initiate the proceedings on this prototypical hardpsych album which has the evil twins on the cover. The funny thing about this 1970 debut album from German band Lucifer's Friend is that it pre-dates anything that it can be compared to, with raw burning vocals, wall of sound pre-metal guitar riffing and lyrics which deal with such disturbing topics as confusion, paranoia and doom. The album certainly has a gloomy feel to it as both the title and cover suggest, but with more of a psychedelic approach. With the opening line, " Travelling this dark world, leavin' the Earth behind..." on the first monster track Ride The Sky  you can rest assured that this album is going to be a real trip! From the cosmic opening to it's spooky conclusion with the title track, Lucifer's Friend features superior rock musicianship throughout ( guitarist Peter Hesselin was a former session man) with plenty of dynamic guitar/Hammond organ interplay.
