High Gloss, thick solid vinyl has a few scattered light hairlines and a few small spots of scuff, viewed under hard bright light, that are mostly inaudible. LP plays extremely clear, bright and very bold, with only a few occasional light tics. White PROMO labels, printed with "SAMPLE COPY NOT FOR SALE" are snapping bright and super clean.

Crisp, tight vivid cover has light shelf wear and a bit of faint toning to bright back at edges. Seams and spine are completely intact with light wear to top seam only. No splits.

Killer 60's Female BIKER PSYCH/Rock n' Soul LP!
.Legendary NYC Drug-Rock-Outsider Warhol-esque Classic

Likely the first concept album released by a female recording artist ...with a bizarre story behind it, while still being a freak-show record that also seriously grooves and rocks - a fine soul record with numerous psychedelic touches and some weird Satan-biker references, plus an early Laura Nyro vibe - but underground icon Lotti Golden has an oddness that puts her in a class by herself.

Somewhat revolutionary for its time, two of the seven tracks clock in at over 8 minutes, one at over 7 and the remaining four tracks are all over 5 minutes, the LP features big, downtown, production, strange moves and Golden's awesome vocals - she can really belt. Imagine if Ronnie Spector made a bonafide psych LP later in the '60s and that gives you some idea. "Motor-Cycle Michael", "A Lot Like Lucifer", "The Space Queens" etc...pure genius - and, due to the very downtown, soulful delivery - a killer party LP as well. Though Nyro-philes may want to crucify us for saying so, the last song, "You Can Find Him" out Nyro's Nyro ...down to the gospel soul girl group a 'la The Bluebelles in the background - certainly a testament to the great influence Laura Nyro's writing and style had on the time. And Joplin fans may also want to seek vengeance when we say they may want to hear how it's done without all that raspy screaming.

Like The Who's" Tommy, A Rock Opera" released the same year, Golden's MOTOR-CYCLE is a concept LP, in that it tells a story; it's like a movie with the soundtrack already supplied - way ahead of its time. Lotti Golden's vocals are the real deal, no overdubs or fancy studio tricks used to enhance. She comes on cool, but lets it go raw when the stakes are right ...and Golden stakes out a lot of territory here, bending and blending it all, from rock to soul to jazz and blues in order to heighten the sense of sarcasm, absurdity, or irony she conveys in each song. Close your eyes, and travel in Golden's time machine; it’s a trip you’re not likely to forget.

The lyrics are driven by a Kerouac inspired sensibility. Golden’s story of her life in New York’s East Village unfolds, and we are introduced to an Warhol-esque cast of characters-- from sordid to inspirational, while Golden undergoes a personal metamorphosis. "Gonna Fay's" is a killer song, reminding of Lou Reed's "Heroin", covering certain similar subject matter... *enlarge LAST PHOTO (Lyric Sheet) for all words.

The emcee for this aberrant cabaret, Lotti Golden, is the nexus of the intemperate adventures starring a cast of sex fiends, drug addicts, and other proponents of the In-The-Now school of living. Motor-Cycle is exactly the sort of hazy deviant party you always hoped the late-’60s was. It plays out roughly like this: Lotti’s got a thing for this kid Michael, who “lets me ride his motorcycle.” But Michael’s truth machine is starting to breakdown, so she heads to Fay’s, the meet-up spot for her coterie of malcontents. Anabell’s gonna be there, Silky’s gonna be there, Billy is gonna drop by, Celia’s gonna come by. But for Fay, whose French poodles keep her satisfied, it’s her doctor’s pills that keep her high, and she’s in trouble with the meds. She over-doses and dies at the party.

One favorite track is "A Lot Like Lucifer", a sprawling epic that starts out soulful, takes a dip in ragtime, leads into a stomper, throws in some fuzz guitar, goes for the Memphis sound, and then tosses in the kitchen sink.. As you listen, you decrypt Golden’s layered meanings; that is part of Golden's mystique, she pulls you in.

There's a poem about Motor-Cycle Michael on the back cover called "NIGHT WAS A BETTER BLANKET" that starts with, "Michael was a siren and a street god...and he said chicks called him Lucifer, because when he got wasted one eye would nod out in the corner...and when I wasn't riding his truth machine, anabell and johnny and me...would go down to the eastside docks and watch the jive sun do the boogaloo on the water..."

That should give you as good idea as anything about what the record is like - or to make a crude comparison, it’s as if The Velvet Underground recorded for Motown. In short: debauchery with a beat.

Great LP, and unique in the rock pantheon!
