Description
Prestige Bluesville 1011, “Blues and Ballads” with Lonnie Johnson, vocals and guitar; Elmer Snowden, guitar; Wendell Marshall, bass; from 1961. The original DG vinyl plays at NM with virtually no background sound. The laminated jacket is about VG++ with solid seams all around; slight laminate chipping at two corners, and minor corner wear. The jacket back is very clean but has the outline of what was probably a sticker at top center; there is slight discoloration across the bottom (see scan). Songs are “Haunted House”, “Memories of You”, “Blues for Chris”, “I Found a Dream”, “St. Louis Blues”, “I’ll Get Along Somehow”, “Savoy Blues”, “Backwater Blues”, “Elmer’s Blues”, and “Jelly Roll Baker”. The “Blues and Ballads” album is on anyone’s list of Bluesville gems and is by far the best of Lonnie Johnson’s contributions to the label. This is one of a set of original Bluesville LPs from several collections brought together for sale this week on eBay. Most are original DG copies in remarkable condition, and many are in the original shrink wrap. Shipping is $4.00 media mail, $8.00 priority mail within the continental U.S.; $16.00 regular airmail to the U.K., Europe, Japan, Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. Additional LPs in a single package are $1.00 additional within U.S. and Canada, $2.00 elsewhere. For overseas shipments, registered mail is strongly recommended at $11.75 extra. Many old records are practically antiques and should be treated that way. This LP will be packaged with the record inside an inner sleeve but outside the jacket; both are placed inside a sealed outer sleeve and shipped inside a special oversized handcrafted mailer with padding on all sides. It is designed thick enough not to be bent in transit and strong enough to withstand a drop from a second-story window. More than two LPs together may be mailed inside a heavy Bags Unlimited pizza-style box. Your LP should arrive in the same condition as on the day it was shipped. All used LPs are play-graded on a VPI turntable with Audioquest tonearm and Grado cartridge.
