I am parting with some of my treasured LPs. Here's a first US pressing of the great LIGHTNIN' HOPKINS LP from 1965, DOWN HOME BLUES. A great early HOPKINS LP that is released in the middle of the resurgence in Blues music that started in 1959 when Muddy Waters played Newport Jazz Fest. It was that show that opened up the floodgates for so many blues artists who never had the chance to record or play shows to wider audiences. But for Lightnin', he was an established star of the blues, having been making records as early as the 40's. But as the blues got more popularized, it was an opportunity for the old guard too. This is an amazing LP, and one worth searching out for your collection. It is a first pressing from 1965. It's not a perfect LP, but it plays true to itself. The cover is discolored on the bottom in front and back, and there is clear tape securing the bottom seam. There is also rubbing to the bottom seam. The spine is beautiful. The LP shows spindle wear, and there are marks on the vinyl. It's a somewhat hard LP to grade because while there are marks on the vinyl, and background sound (worst in the beginning of the LP, and gets much better towards the end), the music and his vocals do pop through in a way that is a very enjoyable experience. And also- being a blues LP, there's an authentic ness to these issues that are less bothersome than if they were on a Pink Floyd LP for instance. IT's a rare LP, and priced accordingly due to condition.
I love original pressings because I feel every LP is of it's time and place. The vinyl, and record pressings are all from that moment in time, and no re-pressing or re-mastering will ever make the sound better for me. PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER LPS FOR SALE NOW ON EBAY.
