Description

PLASTIC ONO BAND - 'GIVE PEACE A CHANCE'/'REMEMBER LOVE'

Unlike EMI/Parlophone, Apple did not produce any dedicated 'demonstration' 45s in 1969. The few titles which required advance promotion copies were the white labelled discs (the first few of the press) which then had Apple labels usually reserved for acetates adhered to them, often with typed or handwriten labels.

This genuine 'demo' of John's debut solo 45 'Give Peace A Chance'/'Remember Love' (Apple 13) is such an example.

Both labels have Apple 'Custom Recording' labels with the '3 Savile Row' address with typewritten labels detailing: artist, song title & release date - 4th July 1969.

On the 3rd July, a press reception for the release of the single took place at the Chelsea Town Hall. However John & Yoko were unable to attend as they had been involved in a car accident on the 1st in Golspie in Scotland and Ringo & Maureen Starr deputised for them. The Plastic Ono Band were represented by an abstract design of clear perspex & recording equipment as seen on the single's picture sleeve.

Matrix numbers: APPLE 13 A-1 & APPLE 13 B-1

Earliest possible stamper codes: 1/G & 1/G

The disc is housed within an original UK picture cover.

CONDITION

Labels: EXCELLENT

Both are clean & bright with just the usual adhesive bleed-through.

Disc: VERY GOOD

Both playing surfaces are clean but do bear numerous light scuffs and hairlines consistent with frequent handling & play. Both sides play without any major faults; 'Give Peace A Chance' plays 'EXCELLENT' whilst the delicate 'Remember Love' has background crackle throughout with intermittent clicks but no jumps or repeats. Both sides of the disc lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Cover: EXCELLENT

Clean & fully intact with minor storagwear only.
