Lemuria are from Hawaii, and the main force behind the group was producer Kirk Thompson. Thompson assembled a great bunch of musicians, including a seven-piece horn section, and put them behind four incredibly powerful women vocalists. The result is a sound that’s akin to Roy Ayers’s later output. It’s deeply rooted in jazz, but sounds more like soul, and it features flourishes of latin flavor and just a hint of good disco.

VINYL CONDITION: NEAR MINT: It doesn't look like it's ever been played. Actually closer to mint but I will call it near mint. Comes with original paper sleeve and lyrics sheet. Beautiful copy.
COVER CONDITION: VG++++: A beautiful copy with no writing, tears, seam splits or stickers. The back is clean but there is just a tiny bit of edge wear on the title side or otherwise I could give it a higher grade.

Here is the soul/funk classic from Hawaii with "Hunk of Heaven". Outstanding ensemble with the great Azure McCall,Star Williams,John Rapoza,Ira Nepus,Gordon Uchima and produced by Kirk Thompson.
Soul, boogie, disco – call it what you will. Whatever you choose to call this style of music, the crowd on the dancefloor doesn’t care, so long as it has that unknown quantity that makes them shake their heels.
Lemuria is a 16-member group from Hawaii based around 4 vocalists. In 1978 they released a 45 of the song ‘Hunk of Heaven’ to promote their self-titled LP. ‘We named the group and the album after the legendary Pacific continent’ says Kirk Thompson, founder and leader of Lemuria. Record diggers exist all over the world, but it’s a mystery how an independently-produced, limited-edition LP coming from an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean found its way into the record boxes of the DJs who gave cult status to this song. It must have been a buzz finding a copy in the record bins, putting it on the turntable and discovering a hunk of heaven within its grooves.
