Description
I am auctioning off selected items from my personal collection of top-drawer LPs. Here we have Lee Morgan’s self-titled Blue 1541, a mono copy of Blue Note 1541, recorded Dec. 2, 1956 with Morgan, trumpet; Hank Mobley, tenor saxophone; Kenny Rogers, alto saxophone; Horace Silver, piano; Paul Chambers, bass; and Charlie Persip, drums. The music – written and arranged by either Benny Golson or Owen Marshall – is excellent throughout, with ace arrangements, interpretations and solos. Standouts include Golson’s Whisper Not and Slightly Hep.
The record has been cleaned on a VPI Record cleaner and is graded after being played as follows:
Vinyl: M-: A 2nd mono pressing (from 1963) with New York NYC address and RVG hand-engraved in dead wax. Sound is dynamic as per usual with Van Gelder engineering. Vinyl has like new sheen and plays almost flawlessly, with a very few, almost inaudible crackles. A very high quality copy of this ace album.
Cover: M-: An original 1957 cover with the Lexington Ave. address. Some of original shrink wrap still intact; very light ring wear, couple of very small worn spots on spine but otherwise bright and shiny like new. Labels are bright and clean without marks.

This is a copy that will please the most fastidious of collectors, as long as you are not looking for a totally original first edition. The album is guaranteed to be as depicted above.
