Description
Up for sale is this highly sought-after 10inch that is Miles Davis' first official studio album. Lee Konitz is the bandleader here, and the album is "The New Sounds" from 1951 on Prestige (PRLP116). The sleeve is in great shape (EX) considering its age, with no major defects on the front or back cover, but some fraying along the spine, and splitting on the upper and lower edges. The record itself is in great condition, with relatively little scuffing from being pulled in and out of the sleeve, but some minor scratches on both sides, though largely in the inner and outer edges (a.k.a. not on the tracks). There is one small bump on the beginning of track 2 on the b-side, "Indian Summer," that looks like a bubble in the vinyl. I'll be conservative and rate the record VG+.
As stated before, the real value of this record comes from it being Miles Davis' first studio appearance at the age of 25. His next record, "Young Man With a Horn," was his first as a leader and came out from Blue Note in 1952 less than 6 months later.
I am a professor of music who inherited this and other records from a collector a few years back. I'm moving across the country for a new position and am looking to sell off some of these records to collectors/audiophiles who can get more enjoyment out of them than I can.
