Description

An original 1st press of Zep III on UK Red & Plum from the time of release in October 1970 [2nd label version]. Matrix A5/B5 - 1st cut. Now, bear in mind that this LP had a huge pre-order in place even before the day of release. Early 1st label versions will all have come from within that batch. By the day of release the presses would have been working full tilt to meet demand for this epic release. The 2nd label, as exhibited here, will likely have been available for sale in the first couple of weeks from 1st release [with this 1st cut matrix]. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original Deluxe E J Day cover with spinning wheel in the front. Why are they 1st issues worth going for? Well, print quality was much higher on the 1st release. We also have an original inner sleeve from the time. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In great condition and has only seen light to medium use. Expect a few light marks per side, and one very small semi-feelable mark [which sounds], and very superficial heat mark [circle] on side 2 [size of a 2 pence piece - only visual fully tested & causes zero isssue]. Remember - these grooves are deep and escape relatively unscathed for the most part. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations. Intros and inbetweens are nice and clean and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. What is impressive is that this copy can manage to convey tracks like SIBLY with a clean background. Typically these lower-key numbers often exhibit background and the ambience is ruined. But this is a very decent playing copy from 1st release. One mark does cause around six ticks in the opening to SIBLY. . A couple of clicks in the the run into 'Thats The Way'. Apart from that issue it is acing it across the board elsewhere. The run in to Hangman is literally awesome... And, admittedly I am very bias when it comes to Zep III, but make no mistake about it this is a cracking rendition!
Cover (Vg+) As is often the case Zep III often exhibits a bit of light discolouration - and this example is no exception. Nothing overtly standout - but it is visible. The front is very flat and none of the die-cut openings are worn - pretty decent really. Same story on the rear - and it hasn't suffered a lot of the laminate creasing you often find. Fully operational wheel on the front. Interior looks superb - no issues. Minor edge wear in the spot. Spine is 98% intact with just a 2mm incision. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity which is in part thanks to the heavy card employed in manufacture.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. Bag present. Slight edge repair.
