An original October 1969 1st Press of Zep II on the UK Atlantic label. Matrix A/B. As Zep II hits the shelves in Oct 1969 demand for Zep product went through the roof and Atlantic could not keep up with the pre-orders! They had to contract PYE in order to keep up with the insatiable level of demand. Yes, there are very 1st day of release copies with the Wreck misprint, but this is one of the 1st presses from October that would follow hot on their heels. PYE contract pressings are notable for their A/B matrix and the double impression level labels. They are pressed HEAVY! Please note that track three is mentioned on the label as 'LEMON SONG' - this is also indicative of genuine 1st issue. The vinyl comes housed in an original E J Day cover with light-brown colouring - correct for 1st issue. Also included is the original plastic bag warning inner sleeve date coded '069' - Summer 1969 just a couple of months before the presses first crank up for the October release date. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) In fantastic condition and has only seen very light use. Under close inspection there are a couple of light marks either side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. This particular example is pretty much off the richter scale for audio quality....It's within the top three copies I've ever auditioned. BUT, remember, that includes all red & plum copies. This is quite possibly the best TRUE 1st press I've witnessed - quite a high accolade. This copy is preserved to an unusually high level  - one that very rarely surfaces.. we could be talking "one in forty of the nicer copies". The audio delivery is stunning...the sheer weight of sound is undeniably impressive with every last nuance and transient sound rendered perfectly. Even in the quiet sections, the slow-builds...pretty much silence. 'Bring It On Home' - is a pretty tricky track to find playing clean in the intro, but this copy aces it. It's so clear you can hear all those vocal-echoes in their entirety..that's a fun game all of its own! My usual disclaimer - a few crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side. This could be the copy you've been waiting for...
Cover (Ex-) Zep II covers are a real pain to find well preserved, but this example has survived the years in fine form. A beautiful front which has not been abused or seriously affected by ageing. Only the very light handling noticeable on the front. The rear which usually suffers a lot of handling is much better than you often find - just that nick in the middle really. The interior is superb - no issues at all. Edge wear is relatively light for this title and the openings are still sharpish. That spine is looking nice - there's a bit of wear but all text is still legible. Overall the cover still retains excellent rigidity. Nice!!
