Description
An original XMAS-1969 copy of Zep's debut on the UK Red&Plum Atlantic. Matrix A1/B4 [revered as having "best audio" for the debut]. The vinyl comes housed in an original 2nd issue cover [the version employed immediately after the turquoise lettering version was discontinued]. The cover mentions the 'Uptight and Outta Sight' appreciation society text on the rear. It has a pinched spine, orange lettering top-left corner, and the grey-stripe running along the foot. All of which is perfectly consistent with a 2nd issue cover. Also included is the original Atlantic plastic bag warning inner sleeve date coded to Nov-69 [119]. This LP would have been pressed for the Xmas market in 1969. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) Well, I've certainly never seen a Zep1 red&plum copy looking this sweet. To give you an idea of how well preserved it is I've done a super-close up of the spindle-hole. It's very unusual to see any Lp spindle hole looking like that - let alone a 1969 Zep 1 copy. This LP has seen only the very lightest use and looks in amazing condition. Under close inspection I couldn't make out more than a couple of very light marks either side [super superficial] - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. I most certainly do not recall ever hearing Zep1 this well preserved. It is nigh on perfect. The mistake to make with Zep - particularly on the debut is - "oh, well, Zep are cranking it out at full volume" so most copies will suffice. This couldn't be further from the truth. The debut has many passages that are very low-key or slow-builds, acoustic, or percussive. Nearly all original copies will falter at some point when you truly put them to the test across all of these sections. You Shook Me.. And Your Time...[the organ section]....These sections are notorious for being difficult to deliver perfectly all the way through. But this copy's delivery is nigh on perfect "all the way through". I will do my usual catch-all...expect a couple of light crackles in a couple of isolated moments, but in reality you will never beat this copy - period... FINAL UPGRADE.
Cover (Ex+) Ok, well the original owner of this LP was one fastidious individual. Again, I don't think I've ever seen the Zep 1 cover looking quite this crisp. Lovely clean and shiny front with barely a hint of ageing, almost no laminate lift, and barely any creasing - just a couple of tiny thumbnail creases. The rear is every bit the equal of the front - no issues at all. Edge wear is extremely slight for this title and the openings are sharp like a brand new copy. The spine, often a problem area, is almost perfectly intact...very very unusual. Overall the cover retains perfect rigidity. An amazing example to be sure...FINAL UPGRADE.
