Description
This listing is for a "Classic Records" reissue of Led Zeppelin's "Houses Of The Holy" first pressing. (see below for an explanation and description of condition). As such this version is much rarer than the later QUIEX version, which is in itself fairly rare.
This pressing is a first pressing of the Classic Records 180gm disc on their original formula vinyl.
What this means is that it is a first pressing from the Classic Records metalwork, as the 200gm QUIEX pressings came later. I, like many other people, prefer Classic Records original discs to their later QUIEX pressings. QUIEX has been criticised by many reviewers and consumers, and I find it a little soft sounding. I read an interview with Mike Hobson, founder of Classic Records, where he states that he was basically forced into changing to QUIEX due to their original formula becoming unavailable. Of course he was bigging up the benefits of QUIEX, but in the end if QUIEX was so good why didn't it get used in the first place. The answer is in the listening - the QUIEX pressings are good, but the pressings on the original formula are more lively and dynamic as opposed to the slightly soft presentation of the later QUIEX pressings.
Given a choice between this pressing and a later 200gm QUIEX pressing I would choose this one every time.
CONDITION:
This record has only been played 2-3 times on a top flight turntable/arm/cartridge combination (Michell Orbe / SME V / Clearaudio Accurate). It has never been wet cleaned. As such it is in mint condition. The sleeve has a couple of slight dents in the surface, so can only be rated as excellent, however the original inner (supplied as an insert) is in mint condition.
