Description
An original copy of the iconic (and short-lived) 588171 version) of Led Zeppelin’s debut album with Turquoise lettering. It is the first print. What makes this unique amongst other copies is that has been signed by Robert Plant – twice!
The explanation When I was at school in 1969 a friend bought the album but managed to scratch the record (see below). He bought another copy and I bought this one. A couple of years later another friend who knew Robert’s family took the cover over to him for signature. When it eventually came back not only had Robert signed the back of the album but had written a note inside the sleeve as well. Both signatures are shown in the photographs. The signature on the back of the sleeve has faded a little as biro ink does over the years but is still easily visible. I have owned it since 1969 and have taken care of it.
The album has been kept in a protective plastic wallet and will be sent with this.
IMPORTANT – Please read the following carefully before bidding or purchasing
I have listened to the album on my Sony turntable before listing it and have tried to be as honest as I can with the following notes. I am neither a dealer nor avinyl expert, just someone who has collected vinyl since the ‘60’s and is now looking to sell off various items. I have looked after all my vinyl and have stored and handled it carefully.
The vinyl is not perfect (see the explanation for this at the beginning of this listing) but plays all the way through apart from the following tracks-
Side 1
“Good Times Bad Times”- This is the worst track as it has the scratch which causes it to jump through the first half of the track.
“You Shook Me” has one click half-way though(doesn’t cause it to jump) but there is a slight jump at the end of the track.
Side 2
“Your Time Is Gonna Come” – Has noticeable pops &crackles during the quiet introduction and has a click halfway through but no jumps.
“I Can’t Quit You” – has some slight clicks throughout but no jumps.
I have read the Record Collector Guide on gradings and overall would grade it as Good to V. Good with the proviso of the aforementioned jump, meaning the vinyl is probably nearer to Good than V.Good but the overall packagingis V.Good !
The Labels have the Superhype Credit and are the first ‘Red and Plum’ labels
The Matrix marks are A//1 & B//1.
The Sleeve is in good condition for its age.There are a couple of corners which I ‘protected’ with sellotape and some laminate‘wrinkles’ around the cover. It has the “Uptight An’ Outasight” Atlantic logo on the rear cover. The inner sleeve is original. The Grey stripe is at the foot of the front cover The spine is not split and easily read.
I have tried to include photos which will show some of the above.
In short, if you are after a mint example this is not it, but if you are after a unique copy of the original pressing .. then here it is!
I have seen other ‘Turquoise’ copies advertised for far in excess of this listing but I have tried to price it in accordance with its condition but remembering the signature of Mr Plant!
