I'm a bit of an audiophile and enjoy music that sounds natural and dynamic. I've been hunting for versions of Led Zep that sound like they should and not tricked up with digital fiddling so CDs are ruled out. I have a modest system and the turntable is a Rega 3-24 with a Garrott Brothers i77 cartridge so it picks up everything on the vinyl.
If you buy an original LZ vinyl, they cost a fortune and usually have been trashed and/or are very crackly. Also new re-issue LPs are extremely expensive and very rare as well. Nearly $200 for just LZ2. So this set is a very rare opportunity to own true analogue versions in great condition at a fair price.
In my quest I came across these rare Russian pressings and there was 2 of each album so I bought the lot. One set to keep and listen to, and a 2nd set to sell unplayed.
I've tried many versions of these albums on CD and vinyl. I've compared the LZ2 in this set to the original "Green" label Australian pressing and in my opinion the Russian pressing sounds the same. Not over bright, no bass roll off and a natural analogue feel.
They have that vintage rock grunt that is missing from remasters and CDs.
When you crank the volume they have power and grunt were it counts. Proper rock n roll sound with out making your ears bleed from over bright mids and highs. I've tried the LZ Mothership boxset LPs  (now for sale on eBay item 190713591816) and they are not to my taste and sound awful, far to bright and no grunt. (mixed for iPod)
If you are looking for a super detailed version that is so detailed you can tell what brand of plectrum Jimmy is playing with then these records are not for you. You want Mothership instead. They do have some low level crackles and pops, but in my opinion the amount of these minor noises does not detract from the listening experience and overall are fairly noise free.
I must point out that I have only played my set of these and the 2nd set has not been played and only assume they are in the same condition as the ones I've played to keep myself.
Condition All the vinyl is nice and glossy as you would expect with new, unplayed vinyl. Vinyl is nicely pressed on good vinyl and have an unusually long run in groove which is nice because you have plenty of time to get settled in your listening chair before the music starts.
They do have some paper fibre dust on them from the jackets but a quick wipe with a carbon fibre brush makes them perfectly clean. The jackets are flat with not even a hint of ring marks. It's like these have come straight from the factory. The art work on the jackets is not original and rather curious. Very collectable! This made me think these might be boot leg, but listening to the LPs makes me certain they are genuine and according to Discogs they are legit.
In my opinion because these were made previous to 1992 and in Russia I suspect their production was totally analogue and from decent tapes.
Original CDs, remastered CDs, remastered LPs just do not sound as good as these.
