Well renowned and loved Auckland Beat Group, who released over a dozen singles (and a couple of LP’s) during their tenure, 1965 – 1970.

‘I Feel Good’ is the band’s fourth single, and the first in the mod/garage groove. A cover of Benny Spellman’s New Orleans – Allen Toussaint produced – stomper, this to me is the ‘Rebels’ finest moment from their ‘garage’ period; with wyld Farfisa organ and throbbing bass lines, these guys could rock with the best! Not sure if the band heard the original R&B gem, they probably picked it up from the Artwoods single release.

Ian Samwell’s mod opus ‘Whatcha Gonna Do About It’ graces the B side. Originally recorded by the Small Faces (1st Decca single), this too is a crackerjack version perhaps rivalling the Faces debut with its pulsating beat and intense keyboard and guitar interplay.

 

 

Record = VG++ (Minor markings and a couple of small hairlines. Not much wrong here!)

Impact labels in excellent condition, slight spindle marks.

 

 

Overall, an item in near excellent condition, an enjoyable listen, and getting harder to find these days.
