Description
This is the BEST RCA of the entire stereo era. Not just TAS, or Harry Pearson, or Sid Marks, of just about every other expert in the audiophile world has given this particular 1/S 1/S version as the Creme de la Creme. The story behind this record is the recording team of Richard Mohr and Lewis Layton pushed this recording to the limits on the master tapes. When the vinyl came out for review by the radio stations, their cartridges could not track the dynamics and they were jumping out of the grooves. So RCA pulled back this stamper and came out with a 5/S 5/S but this one, even though reduced, was too dynamic. So they re engineered again and came out with a 16/S that finally was lowered in dynamics enough to track the grooves. Today our turntables are much more sophisticated and they can allow for the beautiful grooves of the 1/S 1/S to blossom and fill your room with exquisite sound. "As if you Were There" The only 1/S's that seem to survive are the ones that were sent to RCA executives. They have a "For Demonstration Purposes Only" stamped in gold leaf on the back of the cover. This version is audibly more richer and robust than any other. The dynamics very transparent and ambient, Bass is extended to the limit. Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony, are so together on "The Pines of the Appian Way", that the brass , the organ and the gongs and the double basses are considerably fuller and more powerful and wonderfully defined. It beats hands down any other version of this you will ever hear. The strings are as good as it gets on any record I have ever heard. The imaging is wonderful. It is like a wall of sound around you. THIS RECORD IS THE RAREST OF ALL RCA'S. Please do not miss this one.
The vinyl is Pristine. I got this record from an executive of RCA that was there at this taping. It sounds flawless to me. The cover is also Mint on both sides, with the gold embossed Promo distribution stamp on the back. I hate to part with "The Holy Grail of RCA's" but I must. Good Luck.
To all classical record collectors and audiophiles; I am now in the process of selling my entire collection. I have been a record collector of classical and jazz records for the last 40 years. I have recently decided to start liquidating my collection, which has grown too big. I have already listed many of my second, third and fourth copies of the great RCA’s and Mercury’s. I have now launched in to selling the best and last copies, from my personal collection. In the next few months I will be selling superb copies of the all of the Mercury’s and RCA’s mainly from the stereo era. Please add this to your favorites list. These are the best condition, best stamper and matrix #’s. In other words the Best of the Best. I also will sell eventually all my London Blue backs and Lyrita’s etc.
