Behind Saturnia is actually only one person, namely the multi-instrumentalist Luis Simões, of the project 1996 founded. Intended as a platform for artists of various orientation. Writers, photographers, designers or painters should indulge along with musicians, free from constraints, the art itself. No limits of the various artistic fields of activity, etc.
Until 1998 Luis worked with Filip Homem, a designer together. When Luis decided, 'only' still allow the music as the driving force for Saturnia, they parted and Francisco Rebelo came into the boat. "Psych / prog head music of the seventies with its present day descendant: drug rave culture of drums & bass and jungle," I read and wheeze only times deeply. ()
After that, he worked with Eduardo Vasconcelos and Vasco Pereira until 2000 Francisco Rebelo came back as musicians to do so. "Muzak" is for "Saturnia", "The Glitter Odd" and "Hydroponic Gardening" the fourth output and for me the first encounter with Luis, so I can not draw any comparisons. Inspired because emerged during this period, the album from Blasted Mechanism should be. This is a successful Portuguese rock Trance Performance Troupe, the Luis belonged for three years and a number 1 gold disc brought out in Portugal.
Amazingly (to me) is the pleasant outfit of songs that go great ear. The initial skepticism about the music gives way to a relax, lean back and enjoy the pieces that take places even radio-friendly trains. "Kyte" for example, is pretty easy-listening for a rainy Saturday morning. "Om", no less casually, pushing relentlessly forward, textually except for the word "Om" nothing was offered, but it requires no further words, in addition to this spoken spiritualist icon. Spacy the synthesizer in the style of the seventies and very, very melodic.
Luis Simões guest has brought into the line-up. One whose 'old' band has probably very influenced Luis, a Fitzel this band shimmers but repeatedly through the interwoven structures of this album. We're talking about Gong and the guest musicians is none other than Gong founder Daevid Allen. Another VIP among the guests is Nik Turner (Hawkwind). Interestingly in music is Saturnia (the name is a combination of the same butterfly, the planet Saturn and [I quote the hinge side] »a natural / ecological, spacey / cosmic and hedonistic concepts.") Way of choreography: simple patterns with perfect melodies is one exotic to the page (which are of course tools, but also note sequences which to European ears first time unfamiliar sound) and then playing with super hot rhythm transitions such. B. "analepsis". Given this subliminal generating Wanderlust the listener ... which is already strong and there were musical drugs - here would be a turn in the player.
Many of the numbers create with me a kind of déjà vu. One seems to have melodies and arrangements already heard, they leave behind a positive feeling and I can attest to this board to do exactly the listener what to do music ultimately: To those to kidnap front of the speakers for a certain time. In whatever one is kidnapped, it should inspire, distracted, remember, emotions are preparing ... and that's what happened here.
Is the title song accompanied by all the previously mentioned attributes, the tears a strange sounding "Utterly Luminescen" first time out of the dream. Then starts a delicate, oriental melody that grabs you on a magic carpet ride, taking the lead and showing the beauty of the Orient.
Speaking of beauties, of course, is also the Cover more than worth a look () ..... (Ulli Heiser / rocktimes.de)
