THE DOORS
STRANGE DAYS
ELEKTRA EKL-4014
MONO
1967
I bought this LP new in November 1967.
Cover - Shrink on, but pulling away from open end. Price tag on shrink. No writing. No cover splits. Open end corner bumps, perimeter bumps, slight abrasions at bottom open end corner.
Vinyl - Some rubs, fingerprints. I consider these the brighter, gold labels. Different printing plants frequently had different printing arrangements on the labels. Multiple labels on discogs. See below for scratch line description.
Sleeve - Original slick paper with photo on one side, lyrics on the other side. Corner bends/creases, handling wrinkles. No tears. I’ll send this empty, outside the cover with the vinyl in a separate sleeve inside the cover.
Deadwax:
Side 1: T 2 EKL 4014A (CTH) RH B 2
Side 2: 0 0 T l EKL 4014B (CTH) RH B 3
Pressing Rings 69mm
Vinyl weight - 4 3/4 oz, 135g
RH - Ray Hagerty - mastering engineer
T, 2 - upside down
0, 0 - Columbia Customatrix - metalwork
T, CTH - Columbia Terre Haute pressing
EKL-4014 (mono) - front and back covers, labels
EKS-74014 - sleeve corner, spine

October 1967
Having bought this copy in November 1967, it is certainly an early, if not first, pressing.
Multiple online sources say this was released on September 25, 1967. Seems strange they would have “October 1967” for the first publishing date on the labels. I see no earlier date on any labels I’ve seen on line.
While almost all of this album plays like new, there is one noticeable defect. “When The Music’s Over” has a 5/8 inch scratch line in it. If the song begins at 8:10, about 10:44 to 14:20 there are audible tics whenever the needle crosses the line. Ah me, I don’t remember how or when it got there. The video with the pictures is this line in action.
There are 2 more lines, Side 1, that show on the first 3 songs. But there are no sound modifications, plays without any tics.
What a nice 2nd album by The Doors. They had set a high bar for themselves with their 1st album. This is just fine to me. I’ve sung portions of these songs (to myself) for over 50 years now.
One scratch line is all that keeps this copy from about as nice as you’ll find.
