                                    P rima molto rara stampa inglese, copertina apribile ed in texutered fronte e retro nella versione con la scritta sulla costola in lettere rosse, con all' interno l' indicazione del printer "E.J.Day Group" e "Marketed by B& C records Ltd. 37 Soho Square...", etichetta ''big mad hatter'', ovvero la primissima variazione dell' etichetta rosa in basso con il logo del cappellaio matto multicolorato in alto, quindi con la mano cappellaio che tocca quasi il buco centrale, trail off matrix "CAS1058 A - 1U Porky" e "CAS 1058 B - 1U Pecko". 

Pubblicato in Inghilterra nell' ottobre del 1972 dopo ''Nursery cryme'' e prima di ''Selling England by the pound", giunto al numero 12 delle classifiche inglesi e non entrato in quelle Usa.

 Il quarto album. Il loro primo lavoro ad entrare nelle charts britanniche, fu registrato nel momento in cui la seconda formazione del gruppo, quella classica, con steve hackett e phil collins, giunse ad amalgamarsi perfettamente. non c'e' un brano brutto, ma nemmeno minore, in questo disco, ma ci sono pero' ''watcher of the skies'' e ''supper's ready'', due dei brani piu' belli in assoluto del gruppo, i testi giungono ad un livello supremo di ermetismo e raffinatezza, davvero scrittura da grande artista, inoltre il gruppo, stranamente in pochi vi pongono l'accento, suona hard in questo disco, un sound potente e distorto, ma dal quale la voce di gabriel, davvero, emerge suprema. un vero capolavoro, di quelli che hanno fatto la storia del rock e rimarranno per sempre nella sua storia
