Description
Original first pressing of Cambridge MA folksinger compilation on the Boston based Veritas label. THIS LP WAS THE FIRST RECORDED APPEARANCE OF JOAN BAEZ. This is among the first issued copy of this LP. Later copies have a "Best of Joan Baez" sticker that was applied to capitalize on her success. ALSO, THIS COPY HAS A HAND-NUMBERED 1476 I RED INK in the lower left hand corner of the back cover. Other copies that can be seen online on Popsike and otherwise do not have a hand-inked number in the limitation statement.
Veritas Records XTV 62202-3, released in 1960. The original recording was made in 1959. It features Joan Baez, Bill Wood, and Ted Alevizos. The matrix numbers and label layout do not exactly match those on the first issue listing on discogs. The matrix numbers of this one are:
Matrix / Runout (Side A stamped): XTV62202-1C Matrix / Runout (Side B stamped): XTV62203-1B
(discogs has 1G and 1D for Sides A and B)
The label has an "Unauthorized Broadcast.." disclaimer on top while discogs versions do not have this.
The jacket has a bottom edge split about 6" from opening, no further splits along the light to moderately worn edges. No jacket rings, a marking top left of back jacket, some light soiling of white spaces. The LP was stored in a vintage Emarcy jazz inner sleeve, torn with chunks missing. The sleeve will be conveyed but the LP is now stored in a plain white inner sleeve. The LP has a good number of light scratches, visible not deep or feelable, and clean vinyl can be seen around the scratches, I'll visually grade in the range of VG to VG+ (tending towards VG+).
