Description
Up for auction is a very nice copy of the legendary Louis Armstrong & His Savoy Ballroom Five 78 on Okeh Records from 1928 or 1929. This is Okeh 8657 for those of you keeping score.
This 78 features Louis and band in top form on the excellent songs "St. James Infirmary" and "Save It Pretty Mamma".
This 78 is in stunning E+ condition and is still in its original Okeh sleeve. The 78 retains a near full gloss with no more that a few barely noticeable scuffs from the sleeve. There are no chips or cracks. It plays very well with only very minimal surface noise (no pops,or crackles) and rivals those found on reissues. It really sounds and looks nice and clean! Any streak that is seen in the photo is from light glare reflected on the shiny shellac. The labels are also extremely well preserved. This is definitely a nice copy and I am confident that the winning bidder will be pleased!
This is one of around a dozen nice shape Okeh 78s (mostly pre-war jazz and spiritual/gospel) I am offering up for auction in the coming week or some, so check my other auctions.
I ship Worldwide and will pack extremely well. Insurance is obviously recommended. Please note my honest and reasonable shipping rates. US: $5.00; Canada: $8.00; Mexico: $9.00; Rest of World: $13.00.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions concerning this auction. Thanks and good luck!
