LOU DONALDSON "Quartet Quintet Sextet" Blue Note 1537 Mono Vinyl LP.
This is the original, 1957, deep-grooved, "RVG"-etched LOU DONALDSON "Quartet Quintet Sextet" Blue Note 1537 mono pressing on the 767 Lexington Ave NYC labels of Blue Note Records BLP 1537. "P" or "Ear" in deadwax. Musicians include Donaldson, Horace Silver, Elmo Hope, Gene Ramey, Arthur Taylor.
Light surface noise can be heard on both sides of this disc, but as with all first pressing Blue Note LPs, the incredible tone, dynamics, texture and transparency of the recorded instruments surpasses any surface noise or defects. An occasional pop or tick can also be heard. The 1500 Series is a perfect example of RVG's supercharged engineering, with dynamics and tone off the charts! No feelable scratches on Side 1; one 1/2" and three two-inch feelable scratches on Side 2. Occasional light crackle. Side 2 track 1, audible repeating tick for 1/2 of track. Lightly audible repeating tick Side 2, track 2 and briefly, track 4. Labels are bright and clear. The laminated Cover is MINT, with excellent gloss, no spine or seam splits. Very minor seam and spine wear visible. The 767 Lexington Ave., New York 21 Back jacket in excellent condition as well; literally "like new." Only the slightest wrinkle on corners. A rare and dynamic first pressing example of Rudy Van Gelder's magic.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters).
