LORD CREATOR - Such Is Life // Come Down '68
Randy's
Legit, limited re-issue from Japan (Rock A Shacka - 2009)
The Rock A Shacka re-issues are in brilliant sound-quality and come with silk-screen printed labels. We talk about high quality releases here.
A big star in the Jamaican music scene from the early to mid 60s, Lord Creator was imprisoned for 18 months for possession of a small amount of cannabis (although the fact that he was a Trinidadian most likely had something to do with the excessive severity of the sentence). After release from prison, Creator got right back in the game, recording "Such is Life" at Randy's studio, which he had written while incarcerated. For some reason, however, this Rock Steady gem, which features a superb performance from Tommy McCook, was only released in very small numbers as a pre-release. The master tapes and stamper have since disappeared and until now the record had been accorded something of a mythical status. The same coupling as the pre-release, the b side features Lord Creator singing about his time in prison with a lovers twist that makes an interesting contrast to Toots Hibbert's more defiant treatment of the same theme in "54-46, That's My Number", released the same year.
