Description

The two rare Lord Buckley LPs on the nearly-unknown Vaya label, from 1955 and 56. These two albums are his rarest by far and among the only 5 or 6 records Vaya ever pressed. Volume one is the original 10" LP, and has been played and handled a bit. The cover is a beautiful near mint, but the disc has some scratches and wear. Side one plays about VG+/E- and side two is more like VG. Plays fine, but there is noise.

The second, and much rarer, album is a 12" LP and is just about as perfect mint as you will ever see. It has been kept in the original Music City plastic sleeve in which it was apparently sold, which is a rare collectors piece in itself. Music City was a famous music shop on Hollywood and Vine in Hollywood, and the sleeve also advertises Packard-Bell phonographs and Walco needles. --anyhow the album is just perfect. I have seen several copies for sale over the years and never have seen one close to this perfect. Really exceptionally good. The cover would be just about as perfect except for a 2 1/2" seam split at the bottom (see photo), which is actually easy to miss, as the cover is so crisp the split doesn't open up enough to be noticed unless you actually look for it. Anyhow the disc plays perfectly and the cover is as like-new as a 64 year old album can be. Beautiful.

These records are amazing samples of beat era spoken word art. Sort of comedy, sort of just oddball hipsterism... "The Nazz" on the first volume was the inspiration for the term being used in the 60s counterculture, and even McCartney references it in Hey Jude when he sings "Make it Jude". This stuff is the hippest of the hip. And you will never see a better copy than this volume 2. Glorious.
