The most highly collectable and sought-after of MOD/BLUE-EYED SOUL / FREAKBEAT 45's!!! Covers of Beatles songs from 1960's were usually ill-advised affairs,but LOOSE ENDS' cover of George Harrison's "TAX MAN" is an absolute triumph!! A strange fact is that this 45 was released by Decca on the very same day that The Beatles' "Revolver" LP hit the stores; 1966 dfecca, having turned down The Beatles four years earlier were never known for their brilliant music business masterstrockers!!

loose Ends' takes on "Tax Man" sticks to the Beatles version in melody only; the tempo is amped up considerably and has a funky organ giving it mod/club/soul feel.The most interesting part that separates Loose Ends' version from The fab Four's version is that, instead of relying on Mecca's psychedelic lead, The Ends have a simplified lick that plays along with some organ trills instead. Throw in some Spencer Davis Group-style percussion and you've got yourself a groover that went nowhere commercially; except from on the dancefloor at the MOD clubs!!! Flip it over and you've got another MOD raver in "That's It"; reminiscent of The Primitives or one of those Pretty Things-aping groups who injected a dash of "soul"to their later records. It's bass and guitar riff is catchy and even faster played than the A-side, but the lead vocals and alsmost'call and response'backing vocals give it a distinctly"soul". Sadly nothing else was heard of the band after this, which is a HUGE pity as this 45 is a real stunner!
