Description

A one-of-a-kind Holy Grail item for the serious Northern Soul collector. This is an original 1960's studio acetate (test record) of BABY CAN'T YOU SEE / I AM STILL HURT by LITTLE TOMMY (And The Upsetters). This record was issued on Richmond, Virginia's SOUL OF SOUL label (owned by Mr. Wiggles) and is rare enough in its regular pressing. This test acetate was made immediately following the recording session as a reference for the producer. Interestingly, the artist credit on the typed credits is THE UPSETTERS (yes the Grady Gaines Upsetters!) with no mention of poor Little Tommy's name, however these are the identical recordings as issued on the highly collectible Sound Of Soul single! It should be noted that produced Mr. Wiggles has said in interviews that the Upsetters included guitarist JIMI HENDRIX for these recordings, although we're not sure this has been authenticated! A Hendrix-like rhythm guitar is quite prominent on both sides. The label credits include the date 5/12/66 and the labels are from Mirasound Studios in New York. The 10" disc is in VG+ condition, just one (inaudible) scratch - sounds amazing with NO audible defects! In fact as acetates frequently boasted higher fidelity than most pressings, this sounds far better than the pressings of this record which were, unfortunately, on very cheap vinyl. The only noise is in the silent grooves at the end of the music.  An incredible find and a prize for any soul collection.
