Description
Up for auction is a nice copy of the rare debut blues album "Tasty Blues" by Little Brother Montgomery originally released on Prestige/Bluesville Records (BVLP 1012) in 1960.
-Original MONO pressing -RVG stamp in run-out (Van Gelder Mastering) -Heavy inflexible vinyl -Original laminated cover -Vinyl comes in audiophile poly-lined inner sleeve
Condition: The cover is in very nice condition with only minor signs of handling and age. Lamination is beautiful and shiny, no ring wear, just a small spot of lifting along open edge lower right corner (see photo). Back is clean, bone white as it should be, no writing, no ring wear. Has a factory stamp along left edge. Overall, a very attractive, well-preserved cover. Grade it Excellent (EX).
The vinyl record is also in nice condition, retaining its original high gloss shine and luster. No obvious scratches or scuffs, though it does have a few very faint hairlines probably from taking the record out of the original paper inner sleeve a few times, but they don't affect the quality of the playback at all. Labels look clean.
Play-Tested: Like many Prestige/Bluesville records of this era, this record plays with a little background noise that comes in and out, but it's much quieter when you play it in Mono mode, as you should. I think this is from the pressing, not groove damage from previous play. The vocal tracks sound great, very clear without noticeable distortion. The bass and mid-range are nice. Not audiophile clean (as non of these Prestige pressings are), this record is still a very enjoyable listen--and the vocal tracks are especially strong. Grade the vinyl Excellent (EX) or better visually, and Very Good Plus (VG+) from an audio point of view. Still very collectible.
