Minneapolis garage rock outfit The Litter crashed onto the scene in 1966, born of a merger between local favourites the Victors and the Tabs. Their 1967 debut Distortions, first pressed privately, has since become a holy grail of raw, overdriven 60s rock. Produced by Warren Kendrick, it opens with the blistering 'Action Woman' and 'Soul Searchin', both his compositions, the former powered by Bill Strandlof's feedback-soaked guitar before Zippy Caplan took over lead duties later that year. Caplan's searing style fuels covers of the Who's 'Substitute', the Small Faces' 'Whatcha Gonna Do About It', and a venomous 'Codine', alongside a feral reworking of 'I'm A Man'. Now issued in mono on yellow vinyl, it's an unvarnished document of the band's loud, unruly prime.
