LINK WRAY Link Wray - rare 1971 US LP by the legendary ‘Rumble’ man, die-cut sleeve
Polydor 24-4064, 2425 067, 1971 US issue, matrix numbers POLP 80197-1A, POLP 80198-1A ; catalogue no. 24-4064 on left of labels with 2425 067 in small print underneath; 2425 067 also under main no. on the rear cover in small print and in parentheses; unipak sleeve with front flap die-cut to the profile of Link Wray’s face.
A laid-back fusion of country rock, country blues and American folk recorded at Wray’s Shack Three Track, Link Wray’s own studio on his Maryland farm.
Cover NM- A fold over cover with the front flap cut to the profile of Link Wray’s face. On the whole the sleeve is exceptionally well-preserved with near perfect spine and edges and a lovely freshness to the printing. There is a small bump to the top right corner, some faint foxing in the bottom left corner hidden under the flap, faint traces of ring impression and manufacturing creases, a few small, impressed marks.
Disc NM- Vinyl appearance is generally superb: side 2 track 1 has two surface marks and a smear. Play performance of this excellent production and recording is very fine: only noteworthy detractions are two clicks on side 2, track 2, one faint, one light. Labels are perfect.
