This is a Great Playing 1st pressing of this extremely rare record, that looks and sounds Unplayed! With a great cover and original 1st STEREO UK VERTIGO PRESS Labels. This is the rare 1st pressing of this Jazz / Rock HOLY GRAIL classic, in stunning condition throughout! It includes the original 1st pressing swirl inner sleeve. Only 300 copies of this album were pressed. It is one of the Vertigo Labels rarest albums.

A 1st PRESSING IN STUNNING ALL ROUND CONDITION, FROM MY OWN PERSONAL COLLECTION.

Linda Hoyle was the lead singer with UK jazz fusion group Affinity until she went on to make her first and only solo album, now regarded as a forgotten masterpiece by fans and music connoisseurs around the world. A former English teacher, she quit Affinity in 1971, proclaiming she was tired of the music business. She continued with her vocal career and set about writing songs with the keyboard player Karl Jenkins, who later joined Soft Machine. The result was the material for Pieces Of Me, in which many facets of her vocal and composing style are explored. He voice has been compared to both Grace Slick and Julie Driscoll, but her roots in jazz than rock set her apart from her contemporaries. The songs range from the fast and frantic rock of Black Crow, to the subtle and beautifully sung Ballad Of Marty Mole, long a favourite among Linda Hoyle aficionados. Originally released on the Vertigo label in 1971 Pieces Of Me deserves to be rediscovered by all those who savour quality music from an incredible artist. Pieces of Me has become a holy Grail amongst vinyl collectors and is one of the rarest vinyl albums around.

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:

Yes – brilliant! Great sound quality throughout. 

PIECES OF ME is a complex and varied collection of music, and is also an extremely sensitive piece of vinyl, so hard to find in any condition, let alone with crystal clear audio. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like 'Black Crow.' This pressing sounds great, with crystal clear sound throughout. There is certainly no dominant or even particularly noticeable interference, and NO loud hissing, crackle, loud pops or clicks. It look and sounds barely played and it plays with TOP sound separation and clarity! The channels are clean and unstressed. The record plays with staggering power, with near silence between the tracks. Rich and detailed sound with massive dynamics and unique mix and production.  I will give a detailed account below:

"Backlash Blues" bursts in with super great clear sound, no pops or clicks and virtually NO static to be heard. Amazing clean run in grooves, followed by amazing perfect audio. Leading into  "Paper Tulips", both tracks playing with super clear audio with no pops or clicks at all. "Black Crow", a track that so often has lots of interference and surface  sound, plays great. Really great clear audio, a superb example with just a single light pop. There is barely any detectable background static at all, and thats incredible rare. This is a great performance.  

"For My Darling" also plays with great clear sound, and again virtually no detectable static, you can hear sounds on this pressing that are virtually always lost. Side 1. rounds off with "Pieces of Me". This is an amazing performance. Perfect, clear vinyl sound.

Side 2. begins with "Lonely Women", and all the complex layering is clearly defined.  Again, great clear sound, no pops or clicks and very little static to be heard, incredible for such a quiet delicate track. Amazing clean run in grooves, followed by amazing perfect audio. "Hymn to Valerie Solanas", another relatively quiet track plays really well. I noticed a light static tic in the middle of the track, and there are no loud pops or clicks. 

"The Ballad of Morty Mole" is such a delicate track with many very quiet sections and here it plays with very little static and the layering is crystal clear. This is such a quiet track, it is usually heavily overshadowed with static and even distortion. Not hear, it plays absolutely beautifully, with super clear sound, and no loud pops or clicks, very little detectable surface sound, just great, crystal clear audio. Amazing clear sound, there are no light static tics, no pops and no clicks. Even in the long outro there is minimal surface sound.

"Journeys End" sound incredible, with super clear audio and a total lack of loud pops, clicks or even noticeable static. 

Superb sound, every track has been tested and I could find no sound blemishes. Wonderful TOP audio, there is NO distortion, NO sticks or jumps what so ever, and little static between the tracks.

The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, the vocals which come through with tremendous power. Its the same with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear. The tonal quality make this a sensational pressing. With the clear and extra loud First cut engineering giving the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten. Brilliant first mix, unlike the re-issues which lack the impact. A TOP all round example of this great vinyl. A great all round example of this classic vinyl, this is a great audio pleasure that would be very hard to better.

THE LABELS 

These 1st Press Vertigo labels are in spectacular condition, with no sticker marks or writing, and no spindle wear. There are NO spindle traces. A stunning set that would be very hard to better.

THE RECORD 

A superb piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing, this record looks and sounds barely played. The record has great shine and has no scratches. In daylight looks largely unmarked, and only under a spot light can you see a few ultra light handling marks.

THE COVER

A genuine rarity, this cover is also in great condition, bright and clean with a few light creases. There is little light scuffing to the corners of the spine, and none to the other outer edges. 

There is certainly no obvious ring wear on the front or rear. The opening edges are very square and un frayed.  The back cover is nice and clean, with a little light ring wear. The spine has very little wear and is fully readable.

The inside Gatefold is super clean. The openly slight mark on this great cover is a small blemish on the lower right hand side of the inside gatefold. An incredible example of this rarest of covers.

A complete 1st Label pressing of Linda Hoyles PIECES OF ME in any kind of condition is scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. This was a record made in a tiny run and they are extremely rare in any condition.

The cover is hard to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this one is a superb example. Finding a great cover like this with a 1st pressed vinyl, and the original inner sleeve in unheard of. 

Finding one that has such truly stunning audio performance, spot less record labels and the extremely rare cover makes this an extreme rarity and an absolute gem! A great rarity in great condition!

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

V.G PLUS: The record will still be nice and shiny, but may have a few light marks, and will play well. Slight wear and tear on the cover.

V.G: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, etc.
