Les Hou-Lops - CanUSA TC - CLJ-33-110. Sleeve VG++ / Record VG++ (writing on label of side one). "RARE....1969 ORIGINAL first pressing of hard psych rock Lp by a leading band of the Canadian garage(punk) scene in the sixties...their sound got heavier as evidenced on "Love" apparently dedicated to Jimi Hendrix. Released by the Quebec-based CANUSA label, 1969's cleverly titled "HOU-LOPS 69" captured the band opting for a less garage rock and a shift toward a tougher rock oriented sound. Mind you, there were still a number of melodic infectious tunes, including the pretty ballad 'Demain', 'L'Amite' and 'Tu Aimes'. While all of those performances were enjoyable, the real highlights were found in listening to the band going heavy on Deep Purple's 'Hush', plus a Vanilla Fudge-cool take on 'You Keep Me Hanging On,' and their Jymmy (sic) Hendrix crazed 'Love'. Best of all is a fuzzed up cover of Cream 'Sunshine of Your Life.' Lead singer Gilles Rousseau was quite effective as a snarling garage punker and holds up strong doing the heavier material...his English is also flawless making you wonder how big these guys might have been had they chosen to pursue an Anglo audience." Do not miss this!
