Description

Leonard Cohen - Various Positions LP

Cohen's seventh studio release turned out to become one of Cohen's best, featuring the often covered masterpiece Hallelujah and Dance Me to the Way of Love. Columbia records execs didn't see it that way however: Although it featured a more contemporary sound for its time compared with the singer's previous LPs, Columbia did not think it was commercially viable and refused to release Various Positions in the US. Walter Yetnikoff, president of the company, called him to his office in New York City and said, "Look, Leonard; we know you're great, but we don't know if you're any good."[2] To Cohen fans, the decision seems tragically comical now, considering the universal acclaim of the composition "Hallelujah" as well as the high regard given to other album tracks like the country-tinged love song "Coming Back to You" and the haunting "If It Be Your Will". Various Positions was eventually picked up by the independent label Passport Records, and the album was finally included in the catalogue in 1990 when Columbia released the Cohen discography on compact disc. A remastered CD was issued in 1995. (Wikipedia)

GRADING: primarily grade my records visually, based on the Goldsmith rating system of Mint, Near Mint, Very Good Plus, Very Good, Good, and Poor. Questionable marks and scratches are usually tested on a turntable and noted in the listing. I try to err on the conservative side in my grading; but since it is not an exact science, there are bound to be differing opinions as to what constitutes a certain grade. Suffice it to say that I strive to be as honest as possible in my listings, as I plan on selling records, etc. for the long haul and I am not interested in ripping anyone off. That being said, I would add that the time for questions is DURING the auction, not after. I will be happy to respond to any email as soon as possible.

SHIPPING: U.S. purchases will be shipped via Media Mail, unless another method is requested by the buyer. Canadian purchases will be using lowest rate, unless a different method is requested. MULTIPLE PURCHASES WILL RECEIVE SHIPPING DISCOUNT! Please make note of normal shipping time frames for delivery, and refrain from contacting seller during this period. RECORDS WILL BE PACKED WITH THE UTMOST CARE, WITH THE FRAGILE NATURE OF THESE RECORDS IN MIND. MEDIA MAIL IS MY NORMAL METHOD OF SHIPMENT, BUT IF YOU PREFER A SAFER, ALBEIT MORE EXPENSIVE OPTION, I CAN ALSO SHIP PRIORITY MAIL. CONTACT ME BEFORE PAYMENT IF YOU WANT AN ALTERNATE METHOD.

International Buyers – Please Note:

·         Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.

·         Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying.

·         These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up – do not confuse them for additional shipping charges.

·         We do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as "gifts" - US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior.

Also, please note that if First Class Mail International is chosen as the shipping method (anything under 4 lps.) there is no way to track these packages, and the responsibility will be on the buyer once the package leaves my possession. (So far, I haven't had any problems with this method). A safer, albeit more expensive alternative, and once which automatically will be used for packages over 4 lbs., is Priority Mail International, which does have a package tracking feature to .
