GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie vengono controllati sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i 33 giri in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1. Per EP e singoli a 45 giri utilizzo un Thorens TD 166 BC con testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All LPs in auction have been fully heard on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge. I listen EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : "Destination Moon" è un bel film di fantascienza del 1950. A quell'epoca la sua colonna sonora venne pubblicata su un LP 10 pollici dalla Columbia, con il numero di catalogo CL 6151. Ristampato in formato 12 pollici nel 1958 dalla casa discografica Omega Disk in versione monofonica (OSL-3) apparve finalmente per la prima volta in versione stereofonica l'anno dopo addirittura con due differenti copertine. Quella adesso nella mia asta risulterebbe essere la meno comune. Le belle musiche di Leith Stevens sono magnificamente dirette dal musicista Austriaco Heinz Sandauer. La difficoltà per il compositore Americano fu quella di conoscere ciò che materialmente ed emotivamente poteva avvenire in un viaggio nello spazio dato che a quel tempo nessuno si era ancora cimentato in tale impresa. Dopo lunghi studi e aiutato dall'incontro con molti scienzati compreso Wernher von Braun, Stevens elaborò una partitura che non aveva niente di fantastico o immaginario ma solida struttura matematica come naturalmente i progressi scientifici di quel momento permettevano. Così le musiche che descrivono il conto alla rovescia, l'accensione del razzoio, l'assenza di gravità, le visioni dallo spazio, l'allunaggio, la ripartenza ed il felice ritorno offrono poca epica retorica ma una razionalità sonora sconcertante in considerazione della sua epoca che ai giorni nostri può sembrare come preistorica. Le belle sinfonie hanno sia movimenti lenti che mossi e una ragguardevole intensità emozionale.    

Notes : "Destination Moon" is a great sci-fi movie of 1950. At that time, its soundtrack was released on a 10-inch LP by Columbia with catalog number CL 6151. It was reissued in 1958 in a 12-inch format by Omega Disk in monophonic version (OSL-3), and finally appeared for the first time in stereo version a year later even with two different covers. That now in my auction would be less common. The beautiful score by Leith Stevens is magnificently conducted by Austrian musician Heinz Sandauer. The difficulty for the American composer was to learn what can happen physically and emotionally on a journey into space since at that time no one had yet ventured into such mission. After extensive studies and helped by relationships with some scientists including Wernher von Braun, Stevens elaborated a score that had nothing fantastic or imaginary but a solid mathematical structure, of course as scientific progress allowed in that time. So the musics describing the countdown, ignition of the rocket, the absence of gravity, the spatial landscapes, the moon landing, the restart and happy return, offer very little epic rhetoric but a surprising rationality of sound into consideration of its era that to the present day can seem like prehistoric times. The beautiful symphonies have both slow and fast movements and a remarkable emotional intensity.
