LEE MORGAN “Lee Morgan, Vol. 3” RVG, DG, P, Flat Rim, Blue Note 1557 Mono Vinyl
This is the 1957, first edition, Flat Rim, Deep Groove, “RVG” etched, “P”-pressing of Lee Morgan's "Lee Morgan Volume 3” on the "47 West 63rd New York 23” labels of Blue Note BLP 1557. Musicians include Lee Morgan, Benny Golson, Gigi Gryce, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, Charlie Persip.
ORIGINAL FLAT RIM VINYL plays with consistent low to loud level surface noise (i.e, crackle, static, ?? or ????,relative to the volume of the music/instruments), with consistent pops and ticks (some repeating). But ensemble sections are clear, dynamic and strong with clean transients, powerful extension and full tone. NO distortion. NO skips. Though the noise is consistent the music plays well. As with all first pressing Blue Notes, the brilliantly performed and pressed music overcomes surface imperfections. Vinyl shows wear, decent gloss. Many hairline marks of varying lengths, two the length of entire side, 4 feelable. The Deep Groove “47 West 63rd New York 23” labels are generally clean with spindle marks. See photos.
LAMINATED COVER is in good condition, corners very worn; some peeling of laminate. Top seam clean and shiny one half; glued split seam other half. Spine almost entirely split, two inches repaired. Bottom seam shows cracking, half split. “BLUE NOTE RECORDS, 47 West 63rd St., New York 23” back jacket shows age/wear, prior owner’s large red sticker top left. Small square tape residue upper right. This LP was play-tested on a high-end audio system including Hana EL MC cartridge. RECORD CLEANED ON VPI 16.5 VINYL CLEANER.
