Lee Dorsey was - and still is, some 30 years after his death – the uncrowned soul king of New Orleans. Wildly popular in and outside his native town, and influential in Europe beyond his US popularity, he placed a string of high-charting, crafty singles on top lists in the early-to-mid 1960's when his popularity started to wane. His simple, unadorned voice was a perfect icing on a cake of those complex, syncopated cajun-styled structures provided courtesy of Allen Toussaint (a/k/a Naomi Neville, as he is credited on the record) and his orchestra. This album, one of only two albums he recorded for "Amy" label at the very peak of his career, in 1965/66, is a chockfull of goodies. It repeats two of his greatest hits from his previous AMY album ("Ride your Pony") and includes some new, including the biggest hit of his career, the swinging "Working in a coal mine" (later cutely butchered by - gasp! - Devo). Plus, my favorite Lee Dorsey hit ('Can you hear me?) is here in all its glory. The record, as you will see from the description, is a joy to listen and look at, and the gorgeous mono punchy sound leaves absolutely nothing to be desired. This is how 60's soul should be listened! Track listing: Working in the coal mine- Can you hear me? - The Greatest Love - A mellow good time - Mexico - Get out of my life, woman - Ride your pony - Confusion - Holly Cow - Don't you ever (leave me) - Neighbor's daughter - A little dab a do ya

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++. A few light abrasions ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).
(c) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(d) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· COVER

- Cover has a small, neat, circular cutout hole in one of the corners

- Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.
- Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 1 (front side) and 2 (back side).

- Cover has a tiny "wrinkle" (crease) in another corner.
