LED ZEPPELIN
One sided promo
It was November of 1970 and the new single from Led Zeppelin was “Immigrant Song.” Although not considered a singles band and one to get airplay on top 40 stations, this tune turned the trick and worked it way up to #16 on the nation’s charts.
I find it interesting that Atlantic sent out this ONE SIDED single to radio, to focus the airplay on “Immigrant” and not on the more melodic “Hey, Hey What Can I Do.” That flipside, would take on a life of it’s own as a non-Lp track that was a fan favorite. Perhaps there was a chance that the airplay would get split, so focus it all on the one side.
This promo bears the marks of a program director who just couldn’t invision this song as something that could be played in the middle of the day. He wrote 5 PM to 5 AM right on the label.
Scratched into the deadwax of this promo is “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law” just as it is on their Lp.
