Description
This auction is for a United Kingdom first issue pressing, I think, of Led Zeppelin's self titled first release from 1969 on the red/plum colored label. The record has the unusual turquoise lettering on the laminated Brit cover, and it also has the A1 B1 matrix numbers that denote the first pressing. It comes with the original inner sleeve warning that plastic bags can be dangerous. Cover printed by MacNeil Press. The very first release had a mistake in the publisher's credits, listing the cuts with the wrong number sequence.. This is the 'Superhype' detail that is crucial to the first issue. This LP DOES NOT HAVE THAT MISTAKE. This was corrected by Atlantic very early, like right away, and I think this lp is still considered part of the first issue. The matrix numbers have 2 '8's in the sequence, and they were crossed out or corrected on later issues. The '8's ARE NOT SCRATCHED OUT on this lp. The record grades visually at VG, but it plays better, like VG+. There are many fine hairlines on both sides and the record has been played a lot, but they took care of it. Cut 2 side 1 has a faint repeating click that clicks very lightly a half dozen times, and there is an even fainter repeating click on cut 4 side 2. I have played the record several times, and I only noticed these when I sat in front of the stereo. Very light, but they are there. There is very light background noise in many places, mostly noticeable in the quiet parts, like the organ solos & between cuts. Also at the start of side 2, but not all through the lp. Some parts of the record are free of background. The cover is VG with light creases, a bumped spine and bumped corners. There are light stains in a few spots on the front cover, very light, though. Barely a trace of ring wear on both sides. No splits. Light wear to bottom edge. Starting to delaminate in a few places like along the spine in front and open edge front. No loose plastic. LP is flat. The spine is legible, but it is bumped and stressed a bit. This is a very critical description of a valuable record. I enjoyed listening to it very much, and I think this pressing is better than the American releases I have heard. My camera isn't very good, and it makes light colors look darker, so I took some of the photos by a window where I get the best results. Please allow for glare on the cover photos. I use a fairly cheap turntable, an entry grade Sony, and a used amp, so if your have very sensitive equipment, you may not get the same results listening that I do. I will try to take a good photo of any details you want, and I will email it to you. I have lots of other photos, and I wish ebay would allow more on each listing.
This LP will be sent Registered if it sells, wherever it goes. I have Led Zep II listed in a separate auction, from the same collection..
This record will be shipped Priority fully insured by registered mail, domestic or foreign, and the handling charge is to cover the registry and insurance expense. It will jacketed between 4 sheets of corrugated cardboard in a plastic sleeve.
