HERE WE HAVE A SUPERB!!! UK SWAN SONG (SSK 89400) FIRST ISSUE!!! (March 1975) OF LED ZEPPELIN'S OUTSTANDING DOUBLE LP SET, "Physical Graffiti"

MATRIX NUMBERS: SSK 89400 A1 / SSK 89400 B5 / SSK 89400 C1 / SSK 89400 D1

THE LPs ARE HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL FIRST ISSUE BOX SLEEVE AND COME COMPLETE WITH THE TWO ORIGINAL PICTURE INNER SLEEVES AND GATEFOLD ‘SLIP’ INSERT (for all first issue criteria, see below).

IT'S IMPORTANT TO RECOGNISE ALL THE SEPARATE COMPONENTS OF THIS LP TO IDENTIFY A GENUINE 100% ORIGINAL UK ISSUE AS VERY OFTEN CONTINENTAL (especially German) PARTS ARE SUBSTITUTED FOR THE UK EQUIVALENTS (very similar to what happens with copies of “In Through The Out Door”)


FIRST ISSUE CRITERIA:
Front Cover: The outer cover is of a top loading ‘box’ construction of thick ridgid card with the following text printed on the back, top centre:
SWAN SONG / 484 KINGS ROAD, LONDON SW10
Cullderstead Ltd., trading as Swan Song
A Swan Song/Atlantic recording distributed by WEA Records Ltd., P & C 1975
The group name, record title and catalogue number run down the left hand side spine, viewed from the front, these are printed in RED.
Inner Slip Cover: The gatefold ‘slip’ insert is of thick card, untreated rough grey finish on the back and white printed front. The first issue examples have a double crease ‘box’ fold to allow space for the thick card inner sleeves - later issues have a much thinner insert with a single fold. The insert text credits “Gothic Print Finishers Ltd., London SE9 2EQ” as the printers, along with the Swan Song SSK 89400 catalogue number and the address “SWAN SONG, 484 KINGS ROAD, LONDON SW10”
Inner Sleeves: The Inner sleeves are printed on quite thick card with a natural untreated grey finish to the inside surfaces. They have SSK 89400/A and SSK 89400/B respectively on the back (bottom right corner) of each of the inners. Later issues were thinner card with a smooth finish to the inside.
Labels: The labels are the easiest identifying factors for an original UK 1st issue as they should be clearly marked “Made in UK” but most importantly have no WB (Warner Brothers) Logo on the rim text. The WB logo was introduced onto the label in mid 1975 only a few months after the release, so any label with the WB logo is NOT from the first batch of pressings!!



Led Zeppelin returned from a nearly two-year hiatus in 1975 with Physical Graffiti, a sprawling, ambitious double album. Zeppelin treat many of the songs on Physical Graffiti as forays into individual styles, only occasionally synthesizing sounds, notably on the tense, Eastern-influenced "Kashmir." With John Paul Jones' galloping keyboard, "Trampled Underfoot" ranks as their funkiest metallic grind, while "Houses of the Holy" is as effervescent as pre-Beatles pop and "Down by the Seaside" is the closest they've come to country. Even the heavier blues -- the 11-minute "In My Time of Dying," the tightly wound "Custard Pie," and the monstrous epic "The Rover" -- are subtly shaded, even if they're thunderously loud. Most of these heavy rockers are isolated on the first album, with the second half of Physical Graffiti sounding a little like a scrap heap of experiments, jams, acoustic workouts, and neo-covers. This may not be as consistent as the first platter, but its quirks are entirely welcome, not just because they encompass the mean, decadent "Sick Again," but the heartbreaking "Ten Years Gone" and the utterly charming acoustic rock & roll of "Boogie With Stu" and "Black Country Woman." Yes, some of this could be labeled as filler, but like any great double album, its appeal lies in its great sprawl, since it captures elements of the band's personality rarely showcased elsewhere -- and even at its worst, Physical Graffiti towers above its hard rock peers of the mid-'70s.

LABELS: The record labels are in SUPERB condition with NO wear, NO writing and very little evidence of any spindle marks!!!!  I WOULD SAY THAT THESE RECORDS HAVE HAD VERY LITTLE PLAY!!!! 
VINYLS Visual: Both records lies perfectly flat on the turntable and ALL the surfaces have their original DEEP, GLOSSY SHEEN. On close inspection under bright light I can see only a few light marks but these have NO major audio consequence WHATSOEVER!! The LPs are now housed - and will be posted in - new inner sleeves (along with the originals, of course!!!) as I believe inner sleeves should be used as inserts ONLY as they nearly always cause damage to the LPs over time, especially the thick card type, like these!!!!
VINYLS Audio: The audio is absolutely OUTSTANDING!! - CRYSTAL CLEAR, VERY strong and VIBRANT!! Tremendous sound quality!! There are NO scratches, NO jumps/sticks and just a few intermittent clicks/pops (NOT scratches and nothing continuous and certainly nothing I found intrusive. Actually, apart from the couple of clicks at the beginning of Side One – and I mean LITERALLY TWO clicks - there is very little else to fault the playback AT ALL!!!) - truly AWESOME and very, VERY rare especially for a 1st issue copy of this LP which is notoriously prone to lots of excessive surface noise/clicking!!!! The sound quality here is simply SUPERB – TREMENDOUSLY STRONG!!! with NO groove-wear and NO distortion!!!! This copy has NOT been overplayed AT ALL!!!! This must be very strictly graded EXCELLENT(+) for audio!!!! SUPERB!! and NOT overgraded in ANY way as I use STRICT RECORD COLLECTOR grading standards!!! A BEAUTIFUL COPY!!!
SLEEVE: The original 1st issue box cover is in GREAT shape. The only major wear is to the opening edge corner (see pics) otherwise, the sleeve is in EXCELLENT condition!! Square and solid with only ONE of the die-cut windows having a very, very small tear, all the others are like-new!!!
INNER SLEEVES: The two inners are also in SUPERB condition – CLEAN and FRESH!!! with NO marks, very little wear but most importantly NO splits!!!
INNER SLIP: The gatefold inner is also in GREAT condition!! CLEAN with just one light crease!!


PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT MY PICTURES - I USUALLY TAKE QUITE A FEW SO YOU CAN GET A CLEAR INDICATION OF EVERY DETAIL OF THE ITEM
THIS REALLY IS A BEAUTIFUL COPY!!! HARDLY PLAYED AT ALL!!
IMPOSSIBLY RARE AND HARD TO FIND AS A 100% GENUINE UK FIRST ISSUE!!!!!!!
