Description

Led Zeppelin : Physical Graffiti
The original first pressing is in near immaculate condition and plays with audio to match.  The previous owner assured me that he only played the vinyls once, twice at most and I have no reason to doubt that judging by the audio and visual quality.  As per the early pressings it has the '484 Kings Road' address on the back cover which happens to be one of the best I have ever seen.

Visual grading
Wow!  The cleanest first pressing I have ever seen.  Both vinyls are visually stunning and there are no scratches at all.  They still have an incredible glossy sheen and it is obvious they have been hardly played as there is no spindle wear whatsoever.  You have to look very closely under a strong bright light to detect any hairlines and they are no doubt caused by sleeve removal anyway.  There are a couple of slightly more obvious hairlines on S4 but they are still very faint and as detailed below the audio plays to an exemplary standard.
Play grading
S1 begins with a stunning version of 'Custard Pie'.  With only five seconds of barely audible static on the intro this opener plays with superb power and no distortion, in fact no interference at all.  There is no 'background' on the fade out either and then complete silence in the dead wax prior to 'The Rover' starting.  This track then proceeds to play with suitably impressive audio, loud and true with no 'background' again.  The very quiet intro on 'In My Time Of Dying' has light static sounds for a few seconds but this is common even on new high quality vinyl let alone one that is 43 years old!  Thereafter this classic plays with a precision and clarity I have rarely heard on a first pressing.  It displays incredible power, again no distortion and the other quiet sections play to perfection.  However, it is worth noting there are 6/7 dull pops literally at the end of the spoken outro due to a tiny speck that refuses to be removed!  This 'interference' does not occur during the music!!
S2 does not disappoint and once more has tremendous depth and clarity throughout.  'Houses Of The Holy' is 'as new' and even the fade out has no 'background'.  'Trampled Under Foot' plays with the same fabulous quality and what can I say about the classic 'Kashmir'?  It is quite simply stunning and is in no doubt the most 'high end' version I have perhaps ever heard.  Amazing for a genuine first press!  The clarity and power of the track is astounding and there is no interference whatsoever and once again the fade out plays with 100% precision.
The intro on 'In The Light' has remarkable clarity aside from 2/3 static sounds right at the start.  The remainder then plays with a quality that is second to none.  The odd mega quiet dust tick but nothing intrusive and this easily grades as Near Mint in my opinion.  'Bron-Yr-Aur' plays nigh on perfectly as does 'Down By The Seaside' although there is perhaps a hint of distortion on the louder middle section.  'Ten Years Gone' does have some faint crackle and one click on the extended intro but it still plays clearly and remains an excellent listen.  The remainder has no clicks or pops just some distortion on the top end I would say.  It is still better than many versions I have heard.
'Night Flight' begins S4 with sublime quality.  With only a handful of barely audible dust ticks this is audio of a very high standard.  Practically as new, the dust ticks hardly qualify as interference and remember I'm listening out for any minor imperfection!  'The Wanton Song' plays with the same distinction and is another superb listen.  The final three tracks plays another highlight and plays practically as new apart from a little static on the fade out.  The remainder of the side does not disappoint and it's incredible to think this is a very first pressing.  The audio is so clear, perhaps a little distortion on 'Black Country Woman' and 'Sick Again' but nothing that detracts from the overall enjoyment.  No clicks, pops, crackle or jumps just pure audio pleasure!
Cover
This may be the best 'first press' cover I have seen.  It has been so well maintained and has hardly any shelf wear.  It has the 'Swan Song' address on the back as per the first/early pressings but the writing on the wide spine is not coloured in red.  The previous owner assured me he bought this from new back in '75 so it may be possible that some vinyls were placed in covers with white lettering?  I would not be surprised as there is so much false information out there regarding covers etc.
Regardless of that this is a superb cover.  So often the windows and corners are affected but not here!  The wide spines are in superlative condition with next to no rubbing and only the top two corners have a minimal amount of wear.  Both the front and back cover are extremely clean, again this is a rarity as you regularly find the back with marking, fading etc.  This back cover has only a handful of tiny white spot marks.  The top opening edge also remains in lovely condition with hardly any handling wear.
Inner sleeves
The outer credits sleeve is almost perfect apart from a couple of very faint crease.  There is no foxing or marking to be seen anywhere.  A superb example.
The inner sleeves are also in fantastic shape.  One is perfect and the other just a shade off that with a tiny bit of rubbing to the side edge.  It is not a split!
The labels
Visually they are stunning with no writing or marking and no spindle wear whatsoever.
