Description
Led Zeppelin’s fourth (and some would say best) album, catalogue No. 2401012 on the Atlantic Red/Plum label. An EXCELLENT example of this original 1971 UK FIRST PRESSING. First press matrices are A3 and B3. This copy has the famous ‘Pecko Duck’ and ‘Porky’ etchings in the run off grooves on each side and there is also the rarer ‘Misty Mountain TOP’ mis spelling on the label of side two. As with all these early Zeppelin pressings the power they got into those grooves is astonishing ! This recording has a tremendous power and presence that surges out of the speakers and (very pleasantly) kicks you in the aural senses !! Bonzo’s drums are always a revelation and here it feels like you’re right there with him when He’s pounding out ‘Four Sticks’ and ‘When The Levee Breaks’. The detail and clarity of the quieter passages in ‘Stairway’ and ‘The Battle Of Evermore’ are wonderful. Play it at number 11 and hear why its one of the best albums ever made by any band anywhere !! The vinyl has a glossy sheen, and only a few light marks. There are NO CLICKS OR POPS throughout the whole record EXCEPT for a repeating click through the opening sections of 'Stairway' which disappears half way through the “And it makes me wonder” section. The audio reproduction is SUPERB with NO DISTORTION. The vinyl would have graded easily as excellent+ but for the aforementioned, so grades as EXCELLENT. The sleeve is in good condition also. There is a little wear apparent on the edges and spine. This I would grade as EXCELLENT-. The soft card inner sleeve is split along one side and along the bottom. There is a tear to the top edge. In view of this, I am also including another inner sleeve from a later UK pressing which is in fine order. Lastly, the labels. Again the colours are as vibrant as they were in 71’. There are minimal spindle marks and no wear to the centre hole. A GREAT example of an awesome record by an awesome band captured at the height of their powers !!
