LED ZEPPELIN - LED ZEPPELIN IV 4 (or sometimes referred to as " ZOSO ")

A truly excellent (at least) condition copy of this increasingly rare and highly sought after 1971 UK 1st press Led Zep rock masterpiece, with original A3, B3 vinyl matrix numbers on the coveted red & plum Atlantic record label, STEREO, 2401012

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1    2401012 A//3 with stampers "11 7" at 12.30 o'clock, and also etched "PECKO DUCK"

Side 2    2401012 B//3 with stampers "11 3" at 11.30 o'clock, and also etched "PORKY"

The appearance and overall condition of the flat and nicely weighted vinyl is excellent plus (EX+). Each side gleams, with a gorgeous jet black sheen and in normal daylight comes across as completely unmarked. It is only with close scrutiny under a very bright light that a few small and extremely wispy hairlines come into view, and even then you will need to look very closely - not obvious, even under a bright light, nothing feelable, nothing below the surface, and all very trivial and superficial. Clearly this is a record that has been sparingly played and it is difficult to believe that this vinyl is a 49 year old antiquity. 

The labels are excellent plus (EX+). Gorgeous condition labels with black text upon the smooth red/plum/white background and, of course, the iconic Atlantic logo, all in tip-top condition. The only blemishes are just 3 or 4 small and extremely faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label. Note the "MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN", "Kinney Music Ltd.", "LED ZEPPELIN" printed in the plum coloured area, "MARKETED BY POLYDOR RECORDS LIMITED" 6 o'clock text on both labels, and "EXECUTIVE Producer: Peter Grant" texts - all indicative of a UK true 1st pressing.

The condition of the non-laminated outer sleeve is a solid excellent (EX). There is a small 1.5cm surface gash towards the top left corner of the front side (not obvious and could be coloured in - carefully - to be made even less noticeable : see photo), some intermittent, very faint and hard to spot, light scuffing on the reverse side bottom edge, and a single 1cm horizontal very light crease adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on the front side which does ever so slightly impinge upon the spine itself...otherwise, the condition of the gatefold is hard to fault. All edges, including the spine, remain firm with NO scuffing (apart from the aforementioned reverse side bottom edge), each corner remains a near-perfectly defined right angle with NO rubbing, the opening edges remain firm with NO feathering or fraying, there is NO cardboard creasing, and there is NO age discolouration - remarkable!! All colours, art work, and text remain in rich, vibrant condition with great clarity and definition especially the inside of the gatefold which remains beautifully mesmerising to this day. Truly excellent!

The quality of the audio is excellent plus (EX+). Wonderful tone and clarity throughout, even at higher volume and on higher frequencies. No repeats, sticks or clicks and barely any crackle or interference - just the hint of some very mild background crackle at the very beginning and end of side 1 and during a couple of the quieter moments but this is non-intrusive, very trivial and I am sure that a proper clean would further reduce any background noise (probably down to dust in the grooves through decades of storage) which is very minimal anyway...negligible. Every track on this wonderful, timeless LP makes for great listening, and these 1st pressings have so much more power and "raunchiness" than later pressings/re-issues, which somehow seem diluted. Better than brilliant - stupendous!

Comes with near perfect condition 1st press dark grey, dual foldback edged inner sleeve with lyrics to 'Stairway to Heaven' on one side and track titles and credits on the other : no rips, tears or creasing - just a single 2cm seam split in the middle of the bottom edge - and of course remaining fully functional. Note that I always use a new, plain white replacement inner sleeve for shipping purposes in order to protect the original.

In summary a very solid excellent (at least) condition (with sparingly played vinyl) and eminently presentable copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1971 UK 1st press Led Zeppelin rock classic, with - the whole LP remains a tremendous listen....timeless, in fact. A "must" for any serious rock vinyl collection and will only continue to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
