Led Zeppelin : Led Zeppelin III A5 / B6 Celebration error 1970

This early red / plum pressing plays to a very high standard.  As you can see from my audio grading below there is only very minimal intrusion and there are certainly no loud clicks or pops.  No underlying static either.  The clarity, depth and power of the audio is so impressive as is the visual quality of the vinyl.

The iconic cover is without question one of the finest examples I have ever seen.  It is remarkably clean and has the 'new' catalogue sticker on the inside.  The wheel is also in perfect working order.  The original inner sleeve in also in great condition.

This early version has the first matrix (A5/B6) after the A5/B5 one and has no Peter Grant credit on the labels.  The S1 label has the 'Celebration' error on it.  The S2 run off has no 'So mote it be' either but 'Do what thou wilt' remains on the S1 label.

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a stunning glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  It is so clean and looking under a bright light it's difficult to locate any hairlines aside from one long(ish) one on S2 which is still very thin and very faint, you can only see it when you tilt the vinyl at a certain angle.  The run out grooves are unmarked and the S1 label has only minimal spindle wear and S2 just a little more.

Play grading

The run in on S1 is so clean and the intro on 'Immigrant Song' is as strong and clear as it could be.  It progresses in exactly the same way with nothing to detract from the sonic quality.  The depth and power of the audio is superb and the clarity cannot be faulted either.  No intrusion anywhere not even of the fade out.  A Mint start to the album without doubt.

The 'spoken' / acoustic intro on 'Friends' plays to perfection with not one dust tick even and Plant's opening vocal is equal to that.  From then on it plays with great clarity but there are some minor ticks if you listen very carefully.  It's not a persistent tick and believe me when I say they are barely audible, they are so so quiet.  Perhaps a couple towards the end that are a little more obvious but even then 'tick' seems too harsh a word!  It still plays with real quality from start to finish and the end section in particular is stunning.  I still think Near Mint- is a fair assessment of the audio.

The Moog segue into 'Celebration Day' has no background and Page's first introduction is just as strong as is the opening vocal.  As Bonham comes in the audio is sensational!  Jones' is also in his element here, adding so much depth to the sound, and it continues to play with phenomenal quality.  The sonic quality has not 'lessened' at all and it plays loud and true with no interference or distortion.  In fact just played it back again and I cannot overstate just how well it plays, it's 'busy' and yet the clarity of sound is exceptional.  The end section is incredible!  Mint

The intro on 'Since I've Been Loving You' is close to perfect with only a couple of minor ticks and Plant's opening vocal has no intrusion either aside from one very quiet tick.  From then on it plays with sublime clarity - there is no distortion on Plant's higher register and the audio is again so strong and dynamic.  Page's mid solo is a prime example pf that, superb sound.  The quiet section that follows plays with wonderful clarity and the high octane end section is again so clean and strong.  Perhaps just a hint of distortion but it is so so minimal.  I think Near Mint is deserved here.

'Out On The Tiles' plays with very strong audio through every section.  This is a track that is so often affected by distortion and yet the playback is very impressive.  Yes not totally distortion free but you kind of expect it anyway.  You can still play it loud and the instrumental end section is very strong and deep and there is no background and barely any distortion.  The long fade out has no intrusion either.  Overall Ex+ is fair.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The acoustic intro on 'Gallows Pole' has just one very light tick per revolution and the opening vocal is stunning with only a couple of mega quiet statics at the start.  As the volume increases the playback is immense!  There is no background and that quality is still there as Bonham joins in.  From then on it plays with real power and depth and with none of the tinny distortion that you so often find.  The intro is Ex and Mint- at the very least from that point on.

The acoustic intro / few seconds of silence on 'Tangerine' play beautifully without any background and the next section is just as impressive.  The opening vocal plays with sublime clarity and the first chorus is quite simply perfect.  A couple of very quiet static sounds in the next vocal and from then on the playback is STUNNING!  There is just one tick right at the end but overall Near Mint is deserved.

'That's The Way' has one dull tick on the intro and then the opening vocal section plays perfectly.  It continues in the same precise with zero intrusion on the audio.  The clarity and definition of the audio is faultless, I cannot praise it highly enough.  Very impressive for an acoustic number!  Near Mint

The intro on 'Bron-Y-Aur' keeps up the good work with impeccable quality and the opening vocal is of the same standard.  In fact the standard does not drop as it progresses - every section, every handclap (!) play with stunning precision and Mint is 100% deserved.

'Hat's Off To (Roy) Harper' concludes this fine album with audio to match.  The clarity, depth and warm of the audio is outstanding and there is again nothing that gets on the way of the audio.  As perfect a finish that you could wish for and it also grade as Mint

The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

The laminated cover is in superb condition and as stated is easily one of the best I have seen.  The top and bottom edges of the front cover are of course 'open' so as to allow the wheel to move and they are for once so clean with zero wear.  The edges on the back cover are equally as impressive.  The wide spine is 'as new' with no wear, not even on the corners, and the right hand corners are in superb shape also with barely any wear.  The opening edge looks untouched and the front cover is stunning with no marking, creasing or laminate wear and just to repeat the wheel still rotates perfectly.  The back cover is also in fantastic condition with barely any of the fading / yellowing around the edges that you so often see and there is no laminate creasing, another rarity.  The inside of the gatefold is immaculate and the inner spine area is fully intact which makes a change!  This truly is a stunning example of this iconic cover, easily deserving of a Near Mint grade.

The original Plastic Bags inner (dated 1271) has no side splits or tears, no marking and hardly any age related fading.  It just has a little creasing here and there.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
