Description

A TRUE ROBERT LUDWIG (ON BOTH SIDES) HOT MIX OF LED ZEPPELIN 2
ATLANTIC SD 8236
MONARCH PRESSING STERLING SOUND CUT
MATRIX: SIDE 1 - ST-A-691671-MO - BB LW ?13933 AT RL ss W
SIDE 2 - ST-A-691672-MO - AA LW AT RL ss ?13933-X W
FIRST PRESS US 1st pressing, featuring Robert Ludwig's "hot" mastering on both sides. These were withdrawn early because the high bass levels caused low-grade cartridges to mistrack, leading people to return the album on the belief that it was defective. Another engineer was then hired to recut a much less "hot" version of the album, and that is the far more common version.

Labels include "MO" suffix (indicating Monarch pressing) and "Mfg By Atlantic Recording Corp., 1841 Broadway, New York, N.Y.".

THE VINYL IS VG+ HAS THIN SCRATCHES AND HAIR LINES BUT NO DEEP FELT SCRATCHES - SHINY VINYL

CONDITION ASIDE, THE QUESTION IS HOW DOES IT PLAY? ON PLAYING THIS RECORD SOUNDS LIKE YOU WOULD EXPECT - VERY LOUD WITH SUPER FULL BASS AND HIGHS - INCREDIBLE DYNAMICS, THIS REALLY IS A BELTER! - THERE IS NOTICEABLE CRACKLING THROUGHOUT ESPECIALLY BETWEEN TRACKS AND NEEDLE DROP BUT AT HIGH VOLUME (WHY WOULD YOU PLAY IT ANY OTHER WAY?) THE BACKGROUND NOISE DOESN'T MATTER - IF YOU NEED A TRUE LUDWIG ZEP 2, THIS IS A NICE COPY UNTIL A MINT ONE COMES ALONG AND YOU ARE PREPARED TO PAY FOR IT!!

THE JACKET IS VG+ WITH A REPAIRED TOP SPLIT - NO WRITING OR LABELS, LITTLE WEAR AND SOME LIGHT BUMPING TO CORNERS OF HEAVY WEIGHT US CARD - THERE IS LITTLE TO NO RING WEAR!

SPINE HAS SOME BUMPING TO EDGES AND CORNERS

LABELS ARE BRIGHT WITH VERY LIGHT SPINDLE SCRATCHES

COMES WITH ORIGINAL ATLANTIC GROUP BROWN INNER AND IN A PROTECTIVE SLEEVE

PLEASE SEE PHOTOS

FINALLY ONE LAST WORD RE HAIRLINES, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANY NON SEALED RECORD WITHOUT THEM, MANY HAD THEM FROM NEW. MOSTLY THEY ARE A RESULT OF STORAGE AND USE AND USUALLY HAVE LITTLE IMPACT ON THE SOUND QUALITY. THE SAME GOES FOR BACKGROUND NOISE, UNFORTUNATELY ALL RECORDS WILL HAVE SOME AND THIS VARIES AND REFLECTS THE PRESSING QUALITY.

Most records have production marks where someone touched or moved the vinyl while it was still semi-soft.  These marks look like smudges, but are not scratches or "paper scuffs" and do not usually sound.  Untouched vinyl from newly-opened records have these marks.

 RECOMMENDED!

FULLY GUARANTEED!

IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded.

Records are graded under bright lights or discrete sunlight - In the case of visibly possible harmful scratches, the record will be tested and sound quality noted. Many vintage (1955-70) records will play fine with visible damage due to superior vinyl and better pressings.

How I Grade Condition Of Discs

Mint

This means I have owned it from new or purchased from a distributors warehouse, basically it means absolutely new shape, never been played or out of its dust cover. In the case of LP's, a North American album will have to be factory sealed (anyone can reseal an album!) Take Note: European and Japaneses albums were never shrink wrapped!

Note: Being mint does not guarantee it's free of pops and clicks, many pressings especially from the US were made with very poor vinyl and in a hurry which means often there are imperfections in the pressing. As a former importer, we were often given back brand new albums due to clicks heard in the playback.

Mint Minus - No such thing, it's either mint or not.

Excellent - A disc is super clean, with no visible marks

Excellent Plus, means it's probably mint but can't be proven by me.

Excellent minus, is a disc that is excellent except it may have some markings that do not show up in the playing

VG - A disc that is STILL in good shape, WILL have some scuffs or scratches, not in excellent shape but well worth owning. VG + and ++,a disc that is that much better than VG.

VG minus, just a smidgen below VG
