LED ZEPPELIN 1
This is a complete PLUM pressing of the classic first album from Led Zeppelin, from my own personal collection. This great pressing comes with the ultra rare cover variant, with NO grey band but still carrying the UPTIGHT AN' OUTASIGHT 1st pressing text. The UPTIGHT AN' OUTASIGHT text designates first pressing covers, and was not meant to appear on any of the Kinney Pressing or K 40031 covers, making this a genuine rarity.
This is a Great Playing Record with a great cover. Original PLUM PRESSING Labels with A1 B 4 Matrix version and fantastic bright sound! With the corrected CROSSED matrix numbers and rare cover, this is a rare edition of Led Zeppelins first ever album.
CAT NO:....
Atlantic 588171

This is a collectable pressing in very superb condition, that plays brilliantly from start to finish.
Led Zeppelin was recorded in October 1968 at Olympic Studios in London and released on Atlantic Records on 12 January 1969. The album featured integral contributions from each of the group's four musicians and established Led Zeppelin's fusion of blues and rock. Led Zeppelin also created a large and devoted following for the band, with their unique heavy sound endearing them to a section of the counterculture on both sides of the Atlantic.
Led Zeppelin had a fully formed, distinctive sound from the outset, as their eponymous debut illustrates. Taking the heavy, distorted electric blues of Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, and Cream to an extreme, Zeppelin created a majestic, powerful brand of guitar rock constructed around simple, memorable riffs and lumbering rhythms. But the key to the group's attack was shaded and textured, filled with alternating dynamics and tempos.
As Led Zeppelin proves, the group was capable of such multi-layered music from the start. Although the extended psychedelic blues of "Dazed and Confused," "You Shook Me," and "I Can't Quit You Baby" often gather the most attention, the remainder of the album is a better indication of what would come later.
"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" shifts from folky verses to pummelling choruses; "Good Times Bad Times" and "How Many More Times" have groovy, bluesy shuffles; "Your Time Is Gonna Come" is an anthemic hard rocker; "Black Mountain Side" is pure English folk; and "Communication Breakdown" is a frenzied rocker with a nearly punkish attack. The album brought the band exploding into the public consciousness, and marked a significant turning point in the evolution of contemporary music.
ALBUM PLAYED FOR AUDIO GRADING:
Yes – brilliant sound quality throughout!
This great record plays up to the high visual grading and beyond. It plays with powerful and clear sound, with no groove wear or blurring of the sound separation; incredibly rare on an original pressing!
Strong, undistorted sound free of loud pops or clicks. The record plays with some surface sound during the tracks but nothing that interferes or dominates the music. I will give a detailed account below:
Beginning with the iconic 'Good Times Bad Times', the music bursts in with brilliant loud clear audio, no pops or clicks and nice clean run ins. There is some light background static but certainly nothing dominant or even that noticeable. The audio is bright and clear.
Moving into the wonderful 'Babe I'm Gonna Leave You', which demonstrates Zeppelin's incredible subtle production layering, with notes and effects that are usually lost on most even relatively played vinyls. Here the audio sings out with great clarity. For such a quiet track this is just a great audio performance. No loud pops or clicks and just a little background static. The music is bright and sharp and absolutely sensational. There are no light tics, clicks or pops and the audio clarity is superb.
'You Shook Me' bursts out with virtually no static in the introduction and quiet areas. The sound really is clear. Great music with great clarity, and so hard to find with this type of sound. Still no loud pops or clicks during the music, and not a hint of distortion. In fact I may as well confirm now that there is not a hint of distortion anywhere on this great vinyl. 'Dazed and Confused' again plays with clear sound, and the heavily layered quiet instrumental section sounds great. The long bass intro is so clear and sharp, there is very little surface sound to be found and no pops or clicks. Superb clear, bright sound. Fantastic!
Side 2. comes in with the incredible 'Your Time Is Gonna Come', following nice clean run ins, the sound is great. A little very occasional static and a couple of clicks in the middle only. The delicate 'Black Mountain Side' sounds great. No loud pops or clicks and very little surface sound at all. Amazing for such a paired down, quiet track. Back with the upbeat almost punky 'Communication Breakdown' the audio is just superb, with no audible static and incredible clear vocal layering. No obvious sound interference at all. 'I cant Quit You Babe' alternates between the delicate and rockous, this track can be a real test on this album, and here it sings out, with great clarity. This variable track is nearly always blighted with loud pops, clicks, buzzing crackle and distortion, but not here. A few random light static tics to be heard, and great sharp audio. 'How many More Times', rounds off the album, again to the same audio standard. Superb clear sound. No loud pops and just one light click in the loud section towards the end, this great track plays with bright clear audio and sounds fantastic!
All the way through every track plays with sharp definition. A lack of loud pops, clicks, and certainly no distortion anywhere on this great record, makes this a brilliant collectable press of this great vinyl. The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, the vocals come through with tremendous power. Its the same with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars multi layers come through crisp and clear. The tonal quality and incredible lack of any surface sound make this a sensational pressing. With the clear and extra loud First cut engineering giving the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten.
This great record plays with no loud pops or clicks, and absolutely No repeating noises, distortion or Sticks. The audio clarity would be hard to better. A solid all round example of this great vinyl. A staggering first stereo mix, unlike the re-issues which lack the impact.
Graded at EXCELLENT to EXCELLENT PLUS.
THE LABELS
Both labels are in great condition and carry the Warner Brothers / Jewel Music Publishing credit. Famous PLUM labels are superb, with no marks or writing, and no discernible spindle wear. Incredibly there are NO light spindle traces to be found on either side. Great all round deep coloured examples, wonderful! A great all round set.
Graded at NEAR MINT to MINT.
THE RECORD – VISUAL GRADING
A great piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing. Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original early pressings, this vinyl does sounds brilliant and looks largely unmarked. Seen under a spot light it does have some sleeve removal marks, but the are barely visible.
There are a few faint handling marks, this vinyl has been barely played and is a great example of this great album. Unbelievable to think this vinyl is over 40 years old! A really wonderful example.
Graded at NEAR MINT.
VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:
Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.
THE COVER
This rare PLUM pressing comes with the rare cover variant that includes the 1st press catalogue number 588 171 on the spine and NO grey border along the bottom edge. What makes this so unusual is that it still carries the UPTIGHT AN' OUTASIGHT text, which was not meant to appear on any of the Kinney Press or K 40031 covers, making this a genuine rarity.
These thin card covers usually faired pretty badly, with serious ring wear and destruction to the edges. The Spines are nearly always flattened, worn and un readable. Not this one! There is minimal scuffing to the corners, and no rubbing along the edges. The opening edges are very square and un frayed. The white areas are white, with minimal blemishes. There are some light creases on the back and some indentations. The back cover is nice and clean, with little ring wear, which is unusual for these delicate covers.
There is some slight discolouration, some light creasing and a few indentations , but nothing very serious. The Spine is very slightly flattened but fully intact, with some light wear only, with the spine text is intact. A great example. All round, this is a really nice original cover.
Graded at EXCELLENT PLUS condition.
THE INNER
An EXCELLENT PLUS condition, original white inner. NO small tears around the die cut opening, NO splits to the seams, and NO wear at the tops. Crisp and Clean, with no splits, and no writing. A great example that looks like new.
RARITY
A PLUM PRESSING of LED ZEPPELIN I in decent condition is scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. Any EARLY UK PRESSING examples with a record in this type of condition, that plays with great AUDIO is extremely rare.
The thin cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this one is one of the better examples. Finding a great cover like this, with a great piece of vinyl that sounds brilliant and clear is very rare indeed!
PLUM pressings are infinitely more rare than the later orange and green labels, but finding pressings that sound great is a real challenge. A PLUM pressing with the A1 B 4 corrected Matrix version is unusual, and with the UPTIGHT AN' OUTASIGHT text, which was not meant to appear on any of the Kinney Press or K 40031 covers, makes this a genuine rarity.
THIS A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY TO OWN AN EXTREMELY RARE PIECE OF MUSICAL HISTORY, WITH A WONDERFUL RICH SOUND THAT IS GETTING RARER BY THE DAY.

.
VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:
Highest quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and what we always aim for. We sell records that play with TOP AUDIO performance; clear sound uninterrupted by hiss or interference. Even with the cleanest vinyl pressing you will find occasional static or occasional light tics during playback, caused by a build up of dust and dirt in the wide vinyl grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops, repeating tics or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Static build up can reduce when played, and we advise a clean between plays for optimal performance.
SCRUPULOUS EXAMINATION and TESTING:
All our records are play tested on highly sensitive equipment to ensure the sound quality and accuracy of description. We aim to give a precise and concise description of the sound, pointing out defects so that you know exactly what you are buying. We aim to describe our records as accurately as possible, and offer a full refund on return if for any reason you are not completely happy with the item description.
